Columbia Superb 5 Star Girls Bike

Hi
I just picked up a Columbia superb girls bike at a local auction last night, i believe its a 50's one. I dont know anything about bikes that much so maybe you guys/girls can help me. Where do you find the serial number. The bike is in rough shape, so is it a good idea to restore it. I mean sanding it down and what not(not the paint, just the crome parts because their rusty. Also what would the value be in its current state.

From the low-res pic you provided, the bike doesn't look that bad. I'd start with a good bath. Some copper wool & WD40 followed with chrome polish on the bright work and some cleaner/polish on the paint followed with a waxing. You'd be surprised how good that will come up. The tires will probably come clean with a good scrubbing, maybe some Bleech-White on the sidewalls.

Remember, your bike is ~50 years old. It deserves to look like it was loved. Anyone cvan go to x*mart and buy a shiny new bike. :)

Serial number is probably either on the rear dropout or under the bottom bracket.

How much did you pay for it?

Here's a good place to start to learn the lingo. You'll need it if you plan on hanging around. :)

Your bike, right now is worth $35 dollars. Depending on who you talk to, tomorrow it might be worth more or it might be worth less. That's how this works.

Case in point; This past summer I bought a bike for $20, brought it home, gave it a bath, lube and adjustment.... Three days later I sold it for $150. Yes the initial transaction was undervalued, but the seller was motivated. The second transaction was a more accurate price, I maybe could have held out for more money. But bikes in the shed don't pay the bills, money does. :)
