Vista

I just picked up a 10 speed Vista in very good condition. I seem to remember these were schwinn's department store brand, can anyone confirm that?

The bike does not have a lugged frame but has some better than dept. store components like Weimann brakes and a very good finish.

As far as I remember, you are right. Vista was a lesser grade Schwinn. The welds are not smooth and there may have been other differences in components.

Response is a little late but better than never. I don't believe Vista was in any way shap or form ever connected to Schwinn. They were a private label from the National Independent Dealer Assoc. They had various levels of bikes from bannana seats right up to bikes equiped with Dura Ace components. They were pretty well made although maybe a little on the heavy side. I recently purchased one brand new in the box (all be it 25 years old). If you are ever interested check e-bay, the guy had several more and was selling them from time to time. I paid $45 for mine. Was in great shap (still sealed). Just repacked the grease and off it went. I worked at a dealer in my teenage years and we sold alot of the Vista bikes. They were inexpensive and pretty reliable although I seem to remember a criterion model coming back on occation.

My Dad rode his Vista into town and caught the bus many a day. It was quite a heavy five speed, but it served him well back in the early 1980's, when he was in his 50's. He still has it hanging in his garage in Colorado, but at 80 years old, he doesn't think he can handle the mountain hills on it.

;)
