Wax over new decals OK?
I bought some new decals for my Marinoni. The old ones are on top of the paint, and they've started to peel off in places. (It's almost 15 years old, so if the new ones last as long I'll be happy). Before I go to the trouble of putting them on, I wondered if anyone had some advice for protecting them once they are on there? I'd like to wax the frame to protect it anyway, but can I use liquid or microcrystalline wax over decals without scratching them?

Sorry, no answer for you here but I have a question. Are the Marinoni stickers you have now the same as the 15 year old ones? I'm going to be redoing my Marinoni soon and it's of the same vintage.

Hi Cynikal.
Thanks anyway. I've since discovered that there is clearcoat over the current decals, so after I remove them, I'll probably do some surface prep to minimize the ridge left behind and then spray some clear over the new ones for protection.
The stickers I have are the same style, but the colour is different. The only options available from Marinoni were Black with Gold border, Black with White border, and a white-to-black vertical fade with black border. The set I ordered was supposed to be missing the headtube decal, but it showed up a day later! (I guess they found one in a drawer or something). They also sell the stencils for the same price if you wanted to paint on the name instead.

Hi Dirtdrop. Sorry for the mega-delay, I've been out of touch.
I was planning on doing some light abrasion to the areas in question with some rubbing compound, just to get through to the decal. The clear is really thin (a couple of areas of the seattube decal were torn when I received the bike, and the clear could be removed with a fingernail.), so it shouldn't be too much work and I don't want to overdo it.
Then again, depending on how it goes, I may regret my decision and quickly give up.

No abrasion is necessary, just heat.
I use a hair dryer and the decals come right off. The clear coat on the decal comes with it (duh) so you do get gaps in the clear coat on the bike but the decals are gone.
