Does anybody remember this from The Godfather?

http://denver.craigslist.org/bik/519849053.html

I don't remember seeing this in the movie and without something to back that statement up, it's a pretty wild claim; but I'm gonna pull out my DVD box set and see if I can see anything. I haven't seen the Godfather in a while

Try Godfather II. I believe you'll find it in the 1930's flashback scenes in little Italy, NYC.

Hmmm, good point.

But still, they could have done local pickup. I'm thinking that this is a niche item that would draw national attention if it were the real deal.
I wonder who'd want it more; cinema buffs, Mafia buffs, Scorsese buffs, or bike nuts like us?

Maybe the studio would want it more than anybody and ask for their property back.....

Well, I've got a very special Schwinn in play right now and hope that I don't hear back from these folks...
There's NO POSSIBLE WAY that I could justify this to the little lady when she gets back from her mom's this weekend...If it's even a real-deal item

I know how this would play out: "Honey, I snagged a bike from the Godfather movies!... How much was it.... It's a classic!.... How much was this classic?... There's not another one of these anywhere!.... And that makes this 50lb bike that we don't have room for special why?... Because it's a RARE FIND!....You will be sleeping on the couch with the dogs tonight...."

Maybe a Pigeon purchased from the North Hollywood bike salvage by someone hoping to turn a few dollars from a Godfather fan:

That's awesome regardless. Not sure it's worth $600 though.

Could be the real deal. But "PROP" is probably a very good term to use for this sale.

The rear wheel looks to be sloppily spray painter over to make it look like an older neglected work bike. Who knows if the wheel and chain will even turn unless you strip off a couple pounds of battleship gray flat enamel paint. Not a very attractive memento - even to own just to display among your Godfather curios. But someone would probably buy it for just that. I suspect it is not a complete intact vintage bike.

Good points Stronglight,
Plus, something about that "original front wheel also included.." doesn't seem Kosher to me....That seems like a possible big red flag...

Well, this is enough for me to pass...

I just received this:

"The person that sold it to me said he got it from the property manager of the movie(s?). I believe it is the bike outside the butcher shop in the second movie. Are you a bike or Godfather buff?..."

Not the most convincing response.....Me thinks pass

How do you justify that price based on heresay?? Maybe this will get moved to the Numbskull thread....

$600 is too much. I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse.

BW, check the movie, check the listing again, see if it looks to be the one in the movie.
Decide from there.

I wouldn't mind a Godfather movie prop bike in my stables.
Or Dave Stoler's Masi.

But I wouldn't pay $17,500, like for PeeWee's bike.

I'm guessing it's not eBayed because the covenance is sketchy..."The guy I got from said, the guy HE got it from said...it was in the movie".

Might make a good flip.
If you can prove more acurately that it was in fact, in the movie.
Buy it for $600. Prove it's celebrity status, market as such on ebay....net $8500 from some deep pocketed appreciator of such stuff.

The phone call I just got was of no help...

Seller states that he purchased it in PA at the veloswap near/at a PA velodrome from a young hippie couple who were short on cash to get back home. They supposedly purchased it from the property manager....."The rear rack was removed and it was cannibalized"... Nothing adds up. It's bogus....

If you buy it, it might be worth more if you shoot it a few times, maybe add a little blood too. Bullet holes and fake blood did wonders for the value of Santino's Lincoln convertible.

Well $600 isn't outrageous for it, even if it might not have been in the movie.
