Here is mine all cleaned up. It was built December 12 1981 and purchased by me in May 1982. I have all the original parts and paperwork including brochure. I would love to find a 80mm Nitto stem for it though of this vintage. Great riding bike.

^ awesome.

newly rebuilt '83 viva sport, my second univega:

the brown tape is fizik i think they no longer offer, found on ebay (taipei).

left pretty much as found: suntour gearing (symmetric shifters, blue line in rear, vx in front), sr stuff (crank, stem and bars) and gran compe brakeset. just added consumables, old pedals, a laprade seatpost and sunrace 6.

So many beautiful Univega's! I saw mine listed on CL for $25. Chain was rusted stiff, no tires on the wheels, bar tape in shreds. I paid $20 for it.

thanks. yeah, the paint on these is often perfect. and they're 27" wheels. they weren't in the best shape, so i polished the sidewalls wih a fine paper, sprayed the nipples with a light oil, de-tensioned them, retentioned them, and they trued up perfectly.

i had it listed on craig's for all of two days. it sold today to a great young man for $380. had it listed for less without the brooks, but after he rode it, he had to have the leather saddle too.

that is going to be beautiful. love the s600 crank. and it looks like a black saddle and white tape will fit it well, but there are probably several options you're considering. hope you post the end result here.

Just Gorgeous

They are great riding and handling bikes. Even the mid range models. That one's my size too.

And welcome !

Great to see another one! Yes my frame is huge but I am 6'7" so it certainly works! I have thought also of changing components but the originals work great and are so old school funky and original I kind of thought I should leave it alone. I have every part original from this bike including bill of sale and brochure. Kind of like drive a vintage sports car around in a way, in that it doesn't do anything as well as the new ones but it certainly has a cool factor that's tough to beat.!

1996 Univega Aluminum 700

Hello All! I put a deposit on a Univega Aluminum 700 over the weekend. My wife and I had been looking for bikes to get back into riding and while she picked a new bike, I saw this on sitting in the shop and just fell in love with it. We pick them up Saturday and I can not wait to ride it! I looked through this thread and don't think I saw another like it. I believe it is a 1996 and the Serial number is GA686786. Any info on it would be great as there dose not seem to be a lot available on the internet.

Thanks!

Sean

I've followed this thread for a little while and it provided plenty of inspiration for my own Univega that I found on Craig's List so I thought I'd share the before and after. It's a 1984 Univega Arrow Speed.

This was the original build I had of the frame that I now have for sale in the other thread.

Cleaning out some old files, found this:

In 1983, it was $185.00. (I might be the only one here who bought his new and still has it.)

I do. I'll scan a few pages at a time and post. (I won't be able to for a week, so be patient.)

The models thoughout are of a time.

My good friend was taken from me

I had this exact model (1985 sky blue gran sprint), 52cm, for a loving 6 years. It went through a slough of changes, but I was always proud of it.

Two days ago it was stolen from me. I watched the thief ride away on it as I futilely ran after him... Sad days are here.
If you can help, please see this link for further information

Enjoy your buddy while you have it!

Have a mid 80's gran premio that I love, had for a couple years now. Love it. Handles great. An ongoing project to upgrade it all to Superbe components.

I was third in line for this Univega Custom Ten. It took a CL no-show buyer and the owner's father's friend passing on the bike before I got a chance to pick it up. The paint on the frame is in incredible shape given its age. Here's the picture from the ad:

Other than the missing rear wheel, it was complete. It has a Suntour Spirit FD, a Suntour Seven RD, and a Solar cotterless crank. It even came with a usable chain! I threw on a set of 27" Araya rims and tires that I picked up earlier in the week just to gauge its potential when it's finished:

Here's the serial number if someone would like to tell me when the model year:

I picked this up yesterday. 1983 Univega Specialissima. Serial number L662324. This is going to be a great candidate for the "Before and After" thread. The frame has a lot of scratches and it needs a rebuild, but I couldn't let it sit for $30. I put air in the tires and this thing rides great.

my supra sport. its a handmedown which may or may not be way too small for me (measures 48 cm. im 5'9"-10" standover is pretty much perfect). its faster than i remember. i just put a Fizik Antares saddle (local classifieds for 40 bucks!) on in because the rails on the old bianchi one that came on the bike were bent. its super skechy to ride. for some reason if i take my hands off the bar it veers left no matter how fast im going and i felt a death wobble coming on as i went downhill today. if anyone could give me more info on the bike id appricate it.
