Ok all you Peugeot experts help
I have the opportunity to score a nearly pristine Peugeot Grand Sport from the 70's? or 80's I don't know I didn't get the serial number. Anyway its got simplex shifters mounted to the stem and also Simplex Derailleur in front and the back one has Peugeot writen on the back. The rims are steel but have a crosshatch pattern on the sides where the brakes contact. I can get it for $50.00 It looks really nice and I took it for a short ride and everything works and it shifts really nice. Its got a Pletscher rack on it and a nice REI handlebar bag. Is it worth it? Like I said its in great shape. What could I flip it for any idea? Oh yeah and there is a matching bike only its a really large frame and its black and is in just as nice of condition. Oh yeah what is Peugeot 103 tubing?

103 tubing is Peugeots in house entry level tube. Nothing special, not great, not bad.
It sounds like you have a UO8-ish model or a P8-ish possibly a UO10. Answer the folloeing and I may be able to narrow it down...Just to give you an idea several framesets of that vintage just for over $100 with shipping on Ebay. Is it worth? Thats for you to decide. Each of us has our own 'budgets' for bike allocation.
Based on 103 tubing and steel wheels is an early 80's model.

miamijim. I turned the bike upside down and on the underside of the bottom bracket there are two sets of numbers on a piece of paper that looks like it has been coated with a sealant the first set of numbers is d665269 and the second set which is directly underneath the first set is UO919. The first set of numbers i had listed above is stamped on the left rear dropout. What would those numbers represent

Worth $50? I'd say yes, given it is as you described. Just about any fully functional, clean road bike is worth that, at least around here. If it is ready to ride and your size, you can't go wrong. IMO.
What can you flip it for? Haven't a clue as to your market. If you are close to a university of some sort, you can probably double your money pretty easily. If that is the case, buy both for the best deal you can cut, and sell off one to pay for the other. That's what I'd do, and that's what Brian Boitano would do, too.
P.S. - Just had me a nice fresh slice of Key Lime pie. Mmmmmmmmmm...... pie........

The number on the rear dropout is frame specific serial number. It should be of this format Y123 45678 The first numerical digit is the year produced the second and third would be the month and the remainder is a sequential number. The paper sticker is a model specific sequential number. Its very unlikely, but possible the first digit is a letter. The remainder is the model UO9 and size 19".

If it fits you, I'd say it would be worth $50, I'd give $50 for it if it were 23"

Well ok.. im just saying its the same thing as a deparment store supercycle, free spirit or a huffy, etc.
Those rims are also absolutely awful and unsafe (the grooves only make the braking worse, and make a annoying sound when you're trying to stop).. and its only clean meaning it was barely ridden... which theres a reason for that! But whatever, only trying to help!

I deleted my last post in this thread. No reason for wise cracks from me. I apologize to D+B if you have read it and to all others that read it. On another note I'm new to the wonderful world of French threading so I would appreciate all the info I can get. This bike would appear to be a UO9 does that sound right?

Just got a '72 Peugeot PA10E given to me in decent shape. This is my second one. My first one I bought new April 5, 1972 from Green Lake Cycle in North Seattle. They both have been hanging around for a while although I did talk Charles from Wright Brothers into servicing the cotter crank bottom bracket. Although these bikes look and are largely outfitted like the top of the line, Reynolds tubed, PX10E I am told they are basicly tarted up UO-8s. Having said that the afore mentioned Charles likes the bike and thinks it is worthy of some upgrades. Thinking of perhaps replaceing the old Mavic tubular rims with modern clinchers. But what to do about that steel crank?? Any thoughts?

I have to say I would not be riding it around on the East Hill with those rims! I don't like to live that dangerously any more .
Isn't that machine a bit small for you? Looks more my size. For what it's worth, I love that colour!

EH: It fits me pretty well with a little more room when straddled than some of my other bikes. Its for sale so tell all your friends. Unless I find a really cheap alloy wheelset its going away as is. If I keep it I'll change them out.
