*Cancelled* 11th Annual Greater Chicagoland Spring Classic & Vintage Ride - April 29

With great regret I must cancel this Saturday’s ride. My physician reviewed my MRI this morning and informed me only a fool would aggravate my severely herniated L4/L5 disk. Surgery will happen tout de suite.

If anyone reallllly wants to ride, I can meet you at the start with a cue sheet and meet you at the end for tacos.

WHAT: Open invitation to a ride for anyone who reads this post, and their friends. Riding your vintage bike is highly encouraged but all bikes and riders are welcome. This is a no drop ride but there is no SAG support.

WHEN: Saturday April 29, 2017. Meet at 8:30, start ride at 9:00 am.

WHERE: Crystal Lake Main Beach Parking Lot - https://goo.gl/maps/5EssgSXFFjk

FORMAT: A nice leisurely 40-mile ride, flat as a pancake, fish tacos at the end of the ride. This is the route. https://ridewithgps.com/routes/4101456 I will have a print out of the map and cue sheet at the start of the ride.

I want to go but out of riding shape and the old lady has her kids that weekend. I'll still tag the calendar for that date!

Are retro mods acceptable? How old is retro?

Any bike that works will do. Last year I rode my 1969 Witcomb Retro Mod with 9 speed Veloce. It is spring. We are all out of shape.

You can ride a motorcycle if you please. Although you may tip over from going so slow. Everything is fine to ride.

Again, due to my injury I have gotten a whopping 2 hours on the bike this spring. I have yet to ride more than 40 minutes in one shot. At this point, if you need to bail short, you will more than likely joining me. But is oh so slowly getting better. See a specialist tomorrow. With some luck, it will be a pain free ride.

@iab : count me in! It's a good opportunity to see the Chicago folks that I've met before, and to refresh my memory of everyone I met last year for the first time!

Last year, I brought my Raleigh International. For this year, I'm thinking that the Raleigh Team will be my choice. If the weather is looking moist, I've got a couple of vintage-ish steel bikes with fenders that will be used (both built by small midwestern frame builders)

I rode for about 90 minutes yesterday. I plan on about 60 today. Still not sure if the full ride is possible.

well, it is April, after all!

my plan for fair weather is the Raleigh Team.

For wet weather, I'll bring my fendered fillet brazed bike built by a fellow in Iowa in 1989....

80% chance.

But I also see the doc tomorrow with test results. Hope he doesn't put the kibosh on me riding. Although I didn't ask for his approval the last couple weeks. Riding isn't bad, it's the getting off the bike and dealing with the consequences for the next hour that isn't pleasant.

I don't think I can do 40 this early in the season. Doesn't matter - I have to do 1000 by air on Thursday, and I don't get back until Monday. I'd love to see some photos, though, and I hope someone takes and posts some.

Why April 29? Is a replay, say, in June possible?
