Modern pads on old Canti's

I've been looking at the old mafac and dia compe canti brakes and was wondering if I can use some modern brake pads with them?

Yes, as long as the brake pads have smooth posts rather than threaded.
I had to hit 3 LBS's to find KoolStop Eagle Claws with non threaded posts.
My second favorite brake pads.

First being Matthauser pads!

Just NOT the WC stripes version... https://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=006

I'm right there with you on that! (but I was going to bid $50 when they were still at $22)

Correct! ...& YES!

I have the old style, like the ones in the auction (sans WC stripes), where the pad is glued to the holder, on a Campy Nuovo Record caliper. Those ARE threaded.
I have the same old style with non-threaded posts on a Mafac Racer caliper.
Then there are newer nonthreaded post pads on some SunTour Rollercam calipers. The pads slide into the black anodized finned holders.
I have the new style WITH threaded post on some Odyssey A brake canti's.
The rest of the Campy calipers have the Matthauser C replacement pads in the Campy holders.
The last set are actually attached to a set of Scott Superbrake calipers.

No Matthauser fan here!

I picked up a set of modern brake pads from the LBS for my Shimano canti's. Not as cool as those Matthauser pads but they work fine. They are just black rubber molded onto the non-threaded studs. They fit my MAFAC Racer's too but they were just too butt ugly for that use.

I believe they will fit but will be a bit short for MAFAC holders. Functionally OK but aesthetically challenged.

I've seen some reproduction Mafac pads on eBay. I haven't tried them, but I'm sure they would work better than dried-out original pads. I'm using the too-short Koolstop pads on my Competitions. They trans formed them into pretty decent brakes, but I'm not happy with the way they look.
