klatskanai

Hi,
I'm still trying to figure this thing out, actually I am trying to figure a lot of things out. Brand new at this. I do have an immediate request or question. Has anyone heard of an older raleigh with 95mm fork and rear hub spacing, cause I have one and need to find some wheel sets for it.?

klatskanai, do you have photos? Where exactly are you located in Oregon?

Or is your username giving it away?

95mm rear hub spacing? Are you sure about that?

Hey, I noticed in your previous post that you wanted to convert your bike into a fixed gear. If so….the slimmest hub that is readily available (and cheap) is the Formula brand flip/flop hub. It comes in a width of 100mm. You may be able to spread the rear dropouts enough to get that in there. It will just make changing a tire a little more difficult. If you can’t get it in there you will need to cold set the frame to the desired width. So that just about answers that question.

A couple of pointers:
1: While converting a bike to a fixed gear is a relatively easy process… it can become a rather sizeable investment to do it correctly… if there even is such a thing.
2: It may be cheaper and less of a pain in the butt to just buy a used bike already “converted” or an actual track bike.
3. There are bargain basement brand new fixed gear bikes that can be had for a small amount of cash. If you end up not liking it……..sell it. They seem to hold or actually increase in value for some strange reason.
4: As far as posting here is concerned……..It helps when you put a subject (instead of your username) in the title box when writing a new thread. You’ll get a lot more responses. I clicked on your post think I was gonna see some rare Eastern Block Soviet track bike or something like that…….

Hear is a linky to a suitable wheel for your conversion:
https://wheelandsprocket.com/itemdeta...gId=39&id=7123

You may be able to find a set cheaper somewhere…..I’m just lazy and didn’t do the hunting for you.

Or if you are a cheapskate you can make your own by creating a “suicide hub” which I will not elaborate on. The fixed gear/single speed forum has all the advice you need on all things fixed gear related.

Hope I was correct in assuming that this is the info you were seeking!

P.S. Welcome to bikeforums!

Thank you!

I went to the site. Good site! Unfortunately I need 27 inch tires and couldn't find any. I'm going to try to "cold set" both ends. I don't understand why these are 95mm, not many people have encountered this size. I pulled the bike out of a recycling center up in Canada. I'm doing this for fun, just to learn about bikes. I could do this for the rest of my life, I'm really enjoying it. There is so much to learn. I have never ridden a fixed gear should be interesting.
Thanks again!

95mm

Yeap, I guess there are a few out there. They don't appear to be bent. I'm going to use an all thread bolt and try using a nut to evenly stretch both sides out. I made the mistake of getting a pretty paint job on the frame before I got all the specs and figured out what I was doing. Live and learn! I feel stupid when I compare myself to most other bike enthusiasts. I'm learning though!

klatskanai here!

I have photos on my other computer, which I presently don't have access to. I did send them to Sheldon Brown and they seemed to think I could cold set, I'm still looking for a 100mm flip flop hub with 27" wheels. I live about an hour west of Portland where people are just learning how to drive around bicyclists. Too many trucks however. Yes my name is my give away!

^^^Thanks Sheldon^^^

Anyways, sounds like you're having a good time. Now we need pics! Post a pic of that frame! We all love nothing more than a chronicle of a build in progress! Post it!

photos of klatskanai's rebuild

Here are some photos. I had to reduce them so they weren't such large files. Hope you can see them well enough. I have been sick with that awful bug, so I haven't tried "coldsetting"? yet. Soon.
