Parts sourcing

Anyone have any suggestions for a source to get a campy (or compatible) 6spd cassette to go on Record hubs from the early 80's? I'm looking at several courses of action after snapping a spoke yesterday.... and I have the wrong cassette right now(all the shop had was 7, and I needed the bike for a ride), so I'm thinking of replacing it while doing other work.

When looking at cassettes and wheels, there's shimano and campy. Is campy the same from early 80's to today?

Thanks.

You need a freewheel, not a cassette. I like the old Suntour freewheels, but pretty much anything will work for you.

Nothing is more correct for a campy bike than an everest or regina freewheel as they are made in Italy. Search ebay for these items. What sort of range are you looking for? I may be able to help you out... as I have several spare 6 speed freewheels and am trying to unload stuff right now to pay the bills (and bikes).

OK.... large absense of thought yesterday. For some reason didn't make the connection between the difference of freewheel and cassette. I've always called single speed bikes rear gears freewheels, and anything that had a stack of gears a cassette. d'oh. That's why I posted in C&V instead of roadie

Anyways, still deciding between repairing a wheelset, and replacing. Trying to price both options.

What would my options be if I wanted to put a new set of Mavic wheels on the bike(Aksium/Ksyrium)? The hub would be setup much wider, wouldn't it? So I'd be looking at cassettes with more gears... and more of a pain with friction shifters?

Also looking at respoking and hooping the Record hubs. Then I could keep 6 speed, the correct dropout spacing, and my matching <look good on the bike> pretty hubs/skewers. I'd like the look of updated wheels.... but the hubs/skewers match the other campy gear.

Currently, smallest usuable gear is a 13t (the 7speed cluster is too close to the frame to hit the 12). And largest is 24. These fit my needs perfectly fine.... I don't need any more gears, or a different range.
