Raleigh Twenty advice needed

Hello everyone

My dad has given me his 1972-vintage Raleigh Twenty/Shopper, I'm not sure which it is yet, apologies. It is in immaculate condition; I'd say he used it around twenty times over the years.
I want to upgarge it, but have no idea how to start. Have looked around some of the sites to do with Raleigh Twenties and have learnt a fair bit, but some of the sites assume a level of knowledge that I simply do not have. Please forgive the simplicity of these questions:
The Raleigh Twenty has 20" wheels, presumably replacement wheels are available. I have seen on another site a gentleman who uses 36 spoke Sun CR-18 rims, does this make sense? Probably only available in USA though. Would I need a new front fork for this? Another site mentions Universal replacement fork, 20 * 1.75 with the longest threaded stem.
What about Comet Primo 1.75 tires?
There is also another item called Suzue flipflop hubs, I presume these are optional.
I think that is enough stupid questions for one day.
Thanks to anyone who can give some advice.

Some twenties came with ISO 406 rims, others ISO 451. Both are called 20" but they are different sizes. You can find rims, tires, etc. for either size. If you change the wheel size, your brakes may not.

But if you want to talk about the Raleigh Twenty, come to the folding bike forum; that's just about all we do over there!

If it's a really pristine one, you might consider not upgrading it.

If the bike is in immaculate condition I would be hard pressed to do any upgrades that could not be reversed.

There are some pretty hopped up Twentys out there and they do have quite a following and I can count myself among the faithful.

Please take some pics and post them in the Folding bike forum as well as the Classic and Vintage forum and I guarantee you that you will need to find more questions before those folks run out of good answers.

Welcome to the Raleigh Twenty...er... Bike Forums !
