This might fall under "when point blank asking still isn't enough"
This past week, in the final stages of restoring a Tom Kellogg built Ross Signature (yes I'd verified with Tom Kellogg that the frame was one he'd personally made)I found the oem dia compe non aero brake hoods were aged by time beyond usefullness.
I checked with a good dozen aftermarket outlets and every one showed cane creek as the only replacement available. I was in the process of deciding on a pricy NOS pair on eBay when I looked thru JensonUSA's catalog.
I invite any and all to look at the hoods JensonUSA lists under Dia Compe non aero Brake hoods so you'll understand why I was elated.
Having been duped before I actually CALLED JensonUSA s 1-800 number and spoke with a representitive'asking: Are these the light gum rubber dia compe embossed hoods shown in your on line catalog.
I was assured they were.
So...I went ahead and ordered.
Hoods came today.
GENERIC CANE CREEK EMBOSSED DARK BROWN GUM HOODS WHICH REQUIRE MODIFICATION TO WORK WERE THEY TO BE USED.
I took the hoods in hand and went to the Jenson site and visually compared the two.
Obviously; Jenson had never bothered to update their on line catalog after running out of the nos/oem stock.
The shipping costs to return makes it not worth the effort.
I have contacted JensonUSA but I figured there might be other folks out there who -restoring a prized bike-might think they've found THE PLACE for those NOS brake hoods.
Even asking won't guarentee accuracy.

Bummer!
I think Dia-compe and cane-creek are related now, now the p/n's might be the same, however, my last pair of gum hoods were still dia-compe marked from the lbs.

Sence I laid Jenson out in lavander,it's only fair to give props to Mark Harrington over there who shot me a e-mail this afternoon appologising for the deal ,letting me know Jenson had pulled the hoods from their web page and were reviewing all nos equipment on their pages to verify having same.
Jenson is also refunding the cost for shipping and product.
Somehow,I wish I'd talked with Mark the first time.
fwiw. Dia Compe did mrph into cane creek (as sun tour ,I believe ,morphed into scram)which was why I went the extra mile to phone and question the products availability before ordering.

Which diacompe hoods do you need? The ubiquitous Diacompe hoods don't fit the grancomp levers....
these (which are that the cane-creek resemble if I am not mistaken...
just fyi. I DO have a set of the gum dia-compe hoods if you are interested but they do not fit very well on grancompe levers. I have a set of red hood that DO fit gran-compe and a set of black chang-star that are also a decent fit for gran-compes... not sure if what levers you have exactly.
Edit: the 70s gran-compe might be different from the royal gran-compe of the 80s that I am thinking about.
