Gentlemen a fantastic classic and vintage carbon fiber forum after lusting after all the white kestrel beauties,I finally tracked down a 1986 kestrel 4000 frame with an ems kestrel fork and I'm in the process of building it up with shimano dura ace 7400,with 8 speed sti and scott drop in 1980 lemond bars,this is the bike I lusted after as a teen and all of you bike afficianados inspired me,also you all are a wealth of knowledge that I am sponging up thank you my fellow kestrel builders!!!!!!!

My 93 trek 2200.. love her.. quick as a flash.. probably the only newish road bike i will ever own.. the newer road bikes don't have any soul and this one has "lugs" so its got the the heart of a steel frame

excuse the background, this was taken in the winter and my basement is a mess.. mostly because there isn't room to store anything because of my bikes

I had mine out for a cruise recently. 1996 Kestrel 200 EMS. Such a great riding bike.

New to the forum. Here's my 1988 (or is it an '89?) Kestrel 200 EMS. I put a different stem on it then to accommodate aero bars. Still using Look pedals (don't judge me too harshly.) Otherwise, only had to put new tires on it over the years. Shimano Sante components, which I'd really like to convert to STI, but am not a mechanic. Going to have to find someone locally who won't hose me on the conversion.

Please don't change it to STI. The Sante group was designed to be aero and you don't see many of them around together as a full group(I guess you're missing the headset though).

And, how do you guys know the year of your Kestrel 200? My Ruby Weave coloured one is probably a 99 model going off the Bicycle Bluebook site's catalogue. 99 was the only year that has that colour scheme.

Anyone know anything about this? The frame is carbon and appears to have aluminum lugs. What is this?

SN# V C8018505. Seven speed cassette. Components are 600 (brakes, derailleurs), 105 (cranks), Cinelli (bars/stem), Dura Ace (post), Mavic 36 hole wheels, Grip Shift at the ends. I'd guess this is from the late 80's and may have been cobbled together as evidenced by the misc. Shimano parts. The frame decals and head badge (if it had one - look at that head tube!) are gone so maybe it was stolen and chopped? This kinda looks like Treks of that era.

It was in fine shape and ridden in occasional triathlons when it was stored 14 years ago and once I get it running I'm thinking $200.00. Am I in the ball park? BTW, road bikes (even ubiquitous 80's Japanese mid-grade stuff) sell well in my area.

Looks like a vitus/Alan (I don't know the difference)

Judging from the seat clamp lug style, that's most likely a TVT. French. Was also re-badged as other brand bikes like Vituses were.... I think there were B. Hinault commemoratives using this frames, IIRC,
Not sure, but I think LeMond rode one of these frames and were re-badged as early LeMond bikes(?)....

I did post this last month on another thread - got so much good info, I thought I'd press it some more on this thread.

A friend of mine had this for years, then bought a Specialized Roubaix and rode that.
He wanted to "rescue" this one from his garage, took it to a bicycle paint shop, and they told him
"$300 to repair the gouges in the frame, and $400 more to paint it, plus decals." He ended up
buying a NOS Kestrel frame on eBay, a beautiful 200SCi of the last production year. But I digress.

While getting it ready for the paint shop, we tried to strip the 9sp Ultegra off of it.
The R crank bolt, a metric 14 allen slot, was stuck, immaculate.
Trust me, it's going nowhere, and now that we've reamed it round, it's really going nowhere.
So, the crankset is permanent, as were the crank arms.

No biggie, because, like I said, he picked up a NOS frameset, a new 105 group from ribble.uk for $435,
and bought a 10-sp Ultegra/Open Pro wheelset that is smooooooooooth.

This red monster came to me.
I did a little touchup, more to cover than conceal, cleaned it up, sanded and rubbed down the crank arms,
then hit the parts box. 10-sp 5600 except for the FD and crankset, which are 6500.
Cinelli steering, and I've got to find a saddle. Everything used except the chain rings.

There are now 4 of us in our riding group who are rolling on these old 200SCi's. Sort of fun, sort of hokey, but we're old.

It weighs exactly the same as my De Rosa.

long time reader and admirer of many beautiful bikes here. Does anyone own a vintage Basso carbon fiber roadbike?

I own a beautiful alloy lugged carbon basso but I wasn´t able to find any pictures or information about the bike online. I´d wish to find out, if it´s a different frame labelled as basso. The whole frame seems professionally painted (clear) - all decals are under the paint. There is a six digits long number code engraved in the BB, but no name at all. The lugs and dropouts don´t show any engravings. I´ve seen a lot of similar frames like the vitus, alan, specialized allez epic, trek etc - but not one those I´ve seen in real or online were the same. The only vintage Basso-labelled Alan carbon I´ve found so far can be found here.

As soon as the weather get´s better around here, I´ll take some pictures to upload.

That is a TVT. I had one just like it... see next post. Lightweight bike from the 80's used by climbing specialists. This was the "uphill bike" that was swapped out at the mountain top for a steel bike on the way down as they had notoriously noodly handling.

Andy Hampsten is reputed to have said "The only thing scarier than descending on a TVT is climbing without one."

I found this TVT frame & fork on Craigslist for a measly $165. Collected all the period Campagnolo correct parts and had LeMond Team Z decals printed. Built it up with an NOS Campy Chorus group, tubular tires, and Record Delta brakes, but I couldnt justify the $600+ for a real Team Z paint job. I rode it a few times, but it was really too big for me, so this was my first and only garage queen. After tripping over it in the garage for a year, I sold it (for far less than it was worth) and swore I'd never buy a bike that didn't fit me again.

actually I´ve found your Basso before out on my online research for carbon bassos - very beautiful bike. It was the only one I could find with a similar seat clamp construction like mine so far. Your collection is great, some pretty beauties among. I live in the city where Puch is originated so I was astonished to find two in your collection! You seem to have a lot of space for bikes Unfortunately I don´t so I´ll soon have to let some of mine go.

I´ll look up Aegis and TVT - perhaps I´m lucky and find some more info.
