I got lost early on with this thread, possibly the deleted posting has thrown me for a loop!
My more recent interest is in the Centurion Carbon frames, which are among the flexiest, comfiest frame ever made,
allowing me to recover from a very bad bruise of the palm from hitting a pothole while riding a steel bike.
I am still trying to figure out the origins/manufacturer of these frames, just as I am unfortunately at a complete loss as to who made that rare Basso carbon!
I don't know, but the juxtaposition of carbon material and the familiar dimensions of steel-bike architecture appeals to me, at least in part because I am one of the skinny ones who won't induce some sort of deadly speed wobble at high speed or flat out break the thing.
The Centurion is said to be made with carbon-wrapped aluminum tubes, but all I know is that I love the ride an appreciate that the 740x-equipped bike tips the scales at 18.6lbs with pedals.
And BTW, the Specialized and Giant variants of the lugged-carbon theme use oversized carbon tubing for exemplary stiffness, while the Japan-produced Centurion does not.

Just thought you might like seeing the photo. It was a truly wonderful century bike.
For some reason, that particular groupset (9sp Ultegra) was uber-smooth. Probably low mileage.
If I had that frame again, I'd put 10-sp DA 7800 FD/RD and DT shifters.
I'd sand and re-clear the fork with no lettering. Black Bontrager RL seat post, black Cinelli quill stem.
FSA Octalink SL-K crankset with 7800 rings. Ultegra 6500 calipers. And I'd never let it go.
Perfect century bike, and no worries on Thunder Ridge descents. Same wheels, or DA 7400/Velocity A23's.
I would go with 25's on the tires, didn't know about them when I built that one.
(Those are Hutchison Fusion Pro's, 700x20's)

I know it sounds a bit silly, but be careful exposing your older CF bikes to too much direct sunlight as in some older ones, the makers did not use any UV inhibitors with their resin compounds, so they tend to deteriorate, yellow and even delaminate if they are exposed to a lot of UV rays = direct sunlight......

The 1994 Kestrel is very nice indeed! I bet other riders have no idea of its vintage. The Kestrels were so far ahead of their time. I remember back in the day they were to other bikes like a Porsche 959 was to other cars.
I do wish Kirk would cut his steerer and slam his stem, though.

I get more comments from other riders when I ride my Kestrel 200SC than all my other vintage rides put together, mainly a sweet RepartoC Bianchi and Raleigh International and a Miyata 1400. It makes short work of taking the buzz out of chipseal also. It's a good bike to ride for hours in the saddle.
I've had a bunch, and now find myself without one.
That very well may have to change. In due time....

Finished my Giant Cadex 980c. Carbon TVT fork, Cinetica bonded carbon handlebars and adjustable stem, Shimano 600 tricolor group, Sugino 75 carbon levers. Been testing it out over the past week, more glamour shots to come.

The stem and bar really follows up with the C&V techy theme really nicely. Sugino 75 CF brake levers? Haven't seen those before. I should check those out.

Yeah, I usually have it on my butt or in my house, the photo was only for photo purposes since it was such a nice day out. I'm test riding it this week to and from work to get the fit adjustments right for a Century ride coming up this Sunday, so it's parked at my work underground parking with roving security guards and cameras.

I'm not sure if my bike can be considered vintage...
It's a 2001 Aegis Aro Svelte that was originally built up with almost a full 9-speed Dura-Ace but with FSA cranks.
It remained that way until recently when I had it rebuilt with a mix of 11-speed Di2 Ultegra, Dura-Ace and FSA.
Also, not sure if it's applicable here either but here's my 1999 K2 OzM MTB... one of a few thermoplastic CF designs that were produced... they were just too expensive to manufacture.
It's a 2001 Aegis Aro Svelte that was originally built up with almost a full 9-speed Dura-Ace but with FSA cranks.

That bike is steel that was brazed together. There's no carbon fibre anywhere on it.

Did a little update, some era correct specialized trispokes. Again, sorry for the bad pics, I wish I new what I was doing with a camera. Planning on doing a 12 mile time trial in a few months.
