Equipe? Corsa? Anyone tell?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA:IT&ih=004

Advertised as a Cinelli Centurion Equipe. I'm curious.
The blue bike is the eBay model. The silver bike is definitely an 85 Equipe, the red bike is a Cinelli Supercorsa presently on eBay, also.

http://cgi.ebay.com/Cinelli-Supercor...QQcmdZViewItem

There are two main structural differences: fork crowns and seat stay caps. Note the logo differences, also and the panto or lack thereof. There are decal differences, of course, but they are easily made on a PC. I do like the logo on the headset tube of the eBay model, incorporates the two brands well.

Does anyone know what this may be? Perhaps it's an Equipe frame with a Corsa/Supercorsa fork? Perhaps there were more than one model produced in 1985? Thanks.

I don't think that Neuron was around in '85...this is a misdated product, and the changes in frame and fork can be attributed to manufacturing changes, don't you think?

My guess is the blue Equipe is very early, before Centurion decided to stick with Europe on all the components. The silver one pictured appears to be what they settled on and produced for that one-year '85 model. Manufacturing changes seems to be the reason, at least makes sense.

All the Centurion Cinelli Equipe that I've seen have been the same, right down to the color. The Ebay bicycle does not appear to be one. As stated, the crown is wrong. The stay caps are correct though the C orientation is not what is normally seen. However, the seat lug itself is not investment cast and it was a big point in the original ads that the Equipe used a full set of Cinelli invest cast lugs. Also, the lugs are not chromed (even if it was a repaint, why cover the chrome lugs as they didn't on the fork crown), the front derailleur is band mount versus the correct braze-on, there does not appear to be a second set of bottle braze-ons or a pump mount. It is also missing the headbadge decal and the seat tube decal.

The question becomes, is this a repainted Cinelli Equipe or did the owner get a lesser Cinelli and slap on a Centurion downtube decal? Could it be an early one? Possibly, but even the very late 1984 ads show the standard features and these ads would have to be prepared several months in advance to make it to print before year end issue. Also, regarding the components, the fact that they were all Italian was a key point in the advertising. Another big ad point was, that they used Cinelli Record bar and stem, Cinelli Volare saddle. The saddle on the bicycle in question does not appear to be a Volare.

I have serious doubts, that this a Centurion Cinelli Equipe as there are too many variances, but I known of no way to tell for sure as the ones I've seen did not have serial numbers.

And that, I think, is as comprehensive and definitive answer as I could possibly get. I think that blue "Equipe" is a nice, clean bike with decent components, and probably rides well. I just don't think it's what Cinelli intended for marketing as an Equipe.

Thanks, T-Mar, for your insight, knowledge, and research.
