TubularTires

I don't want to start any 'which is better' threads, but want to know if anyone has experience with 'Gommitalia Champion Tubular Tires'? Are they worth $17 for daily riders?

Not first hand, but one of my friends (a rather fussy fellow when it comes to bicycle gear) was quite pleased with the inexpensive Gommitalias. This was from two years ago. When I tried to get the LBS to order, they told me their supplier was no longer to get them - so I never got to find out for myself.

Trying one more time for more feedback, I can get Hutchinson Tempo-1 Tubular Tires for $6 more than the Gommitalia's. These are daily riders, not the 'good stuff'. Anyone have any experience with either?

Low quality, clunky ride. I had two fail at the valve stem.

EDIT: Sorry....the Hutchinsons.

Few years back I bought a pair each of Giros, Gommi Champions, Vittoria Rallye, and Servizio Corse at about the same time. These four tires look virtually identical, down to the color of the thread used in the construction, and the process stampings on the base tape. Treads are a bit different. Rallyes I've bought more recently look identical to the old ones.

I've used the Vittorias and the Giros a fair bit since then, and on my Mondonico the Rallye rear tread seems worn pretty quick, faster than on the Giros. I don't have many miles on the Gommis or the Servizios.

Both the Giros and Rallyes have not flatted, both hold pressure very well, and both feel tight when riding. There is some lack of suppleness compared to the triathlon Tufos I had, and perhaps not quite round. They both aligned well on the rim, as well as my old classic Vittoria CGs and CXs did.

I think they are DEFINITELY worth the $17 each!
