Looking at '81 Windsor: Can anyone ID model?

Going to look at an 81 Windsor tomorrow. Spoke to seller -- he doesn't know the model. Frame is 23" -- OK for me, perfect for my son.

I attached a pic. Here's the Craig's page: https://cleveland.craigslist.org/bik/624112829.html

Looked around online. Can't find a model that looks like this one. Not quite a Carrera. Not quite a Pro either.

Any thoughts? I guess I'll know if it's worth $100 when I see it.

Windsor Competition

It was a Windsor Competition, if anyone's interested. Oooooooo! Hard to find, eh?

Seller had his original receipt: $379 +tx in 1981.

Sugino bars, stem (GrandComp), LF hubs (Pro-OR?, OK, they might have been Suntour too), crankset, pedals, probably seatpost (microadjustable). Suntour Cyclone FD and RD. Sun M13 rims, narrow, like 700x20-23. Universal Model 68 sidepull brakes.

No decals or headbadge. Chrome on head tube lugs toasted. (Same for skewers) Frame rusted and repainted with new paint peeling to show the rust -- but, boy was this baby light! Spent time in CA and FL -- maybe it was the humidity and salt air, dunno.

I offered him $60, but he wouldn't go for it. It's a nice project for somebody, but not for me. Some weaselly kid will probably turn it into a fixie. ;-)

Still, the temptation to give the guy the c-note and throw it in the van was almost unbearable. I've spent all afternoon trying to talk myself into calling him back to see if he still has it . . . "Well, I could strip it and powder coat it for about another $100, mount that Shimano 600 drivetrain I already bought, clean up the wheels, hubs, stems and brakes, re-cable, re-tape, sell the Suntour stuff on ebay, hmmmm . . ."

I think you made the right choice. Tough choice, but right decision.

I just got back from a spin on my cherry Windsor touring elite. Suntour drivetrain, universal 68 sidepulls, Columbus tubing, and pretty, pretty chrome on the headtube lugs.

She may not be as fast as my other bikes, but pretty fun to ride.

Keep looking, there's a better option out there. Stay strong.
