Test ride and nothing fell off!
Hi guys you might remember that I have just completed(is it ever "finished") the rebuild of my works 1965
Moulton S safari?...well this morning it was not raining, snowing or hailing so at long last I took her out for a test ride.
Pleased to report that everything went well, even the gear ratios were good for an older guy and the period renolds chain stopped on and selected smoothly.
I came home without a list of things to do so I am well happy with the bike...here are one or two snaps of my bike...your comments both here and on flickr welcome as always..cheers Ken B UK...ps are you familiar with Eric Morecambe???

Wow! That is pretty...
Please pardon the stupid question, but I sometimes here folks speaking about "F1" or "Formula" bikes. Is that similar to to the way that a F1 bike would be set up?

sorry I do not understand your question re F1....This side of the ocean we call our top car race series "formula one or F1"....if you mean this then no there is no carbon fibre or special gas in the tyres...sorry tires!
The bike is in what Moulton bicycles called "stripped for action" as opposed to "dressed for travel" mode when the racks are refitted and mudguards..sorry fenders are replaced...hope this answers your question?..regards k

well, I just spent another 30 minutes looking through your photos when I should have been raking the leaves...and of course I want one. I'm attracted to all things bicycle, and probably double to these darned things...I would suspect that there aren't 10 in all of Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and Nevada (well, maybe excluding Reno and Las Vegas).
Formula 1 was an offshoot of BMX racing in the 80's. The bikes were intended for adult-sized people to ride, but were equipped with 20 inch wheels. Usually they weren't very well built and they were almost always single-speed, and relied heavily on the BMX industry. The trend never developed.
Moultons are real bicycles, built to solve some problems inherent with large wheeled bikes, and they use real world components. There have been racers that competed on them, but not ever in Formula 1 races.

Thanks for clearing that one up...I had never heard of formula one bikes!
The moultons that i specialise in all have 17" rims and tires which run at higher pressures than most 16" and the majority were built at Alex Moulton's stately home in Bradford on Avon in their special S shop. They are high performance and equipped racers or tourers.
Huffy did sell moultons from 63 to 66 I think and these would be hand built at BoA and exported in CKD form...look out for super four and stowaway models?
