Peugeot Bordeaux

I own a Peugeot ten speed and am trying to determine the year of the bike, can anyone help? I have been on several Peugeot related web sites and have seen references to several different models, but nothing called a Bordeaux. I believe it dates to the late 1980's but not really sure. What is really frustrating is that I purchased the bike new, but have no paperwork that I can locate. Stopped riding it when I had back problems and subsequently got into running. Since returning to biking, I use the Peugeot on occasion but am more likely found on my Sirrus.

Any help is appreciated

I've got a Bordeaux that's older than the one that miamijim posted. Mine is probably an 87. It doesn't look quite like the one in the link above. There's no black hardware on mine, nor does it have aero brake levers and the fork is different. It's also got a different decal scheme with a series of small "rainbow" decals that go from yellow to red.

Getting the exact year can be hard but you can narrow it down. Check for date-stamps on the hubs. You can also look for date codes on the derailleurs and check them against this site: https://www.vintage-trek.com/component_dates.htm

It's a trek site, but that doesn't matter since both trek and Peugeot used Shimano derailleurs in the time frame we're talking about.

Again, this won't give you the exact year of the bike but if you got an original derailleur that was manufactured in '87, you'll know your bike isn't an '86

By default that leaves 1988.

Ok, that means '87 or '88? As I said mine has splash decals.

Jim, won't be able to get them until this weekend, the bike is at another house. Will send them along when I get them.

Jim, the serial number on the Peugeot Bordeaux is Y90503251, will this help pin the year?

Thanks for the help Jim, rode it about 20 miles yesterday, still a sweet ride for almost 20 years old, and still looks decent. Took some pics but having trouble attaching them.

Forget about attaching them...upload them to photobucket then past the link to your post. Much better that way.

Why am I reviving this thread, you ask? Well, I have what I thought was an '87 Peugeot Bordeaux (ranbow decals, blue paint job, SN starts Y7XX-XXXXX), but miamijim is making me question the year. Based on a few other threads, it sounds like the model year is probably '88 with the frame manufactured in '87. Is that possible/right?

I've owned the thing since '94 when I bought it from a friend (he was the original owner). I know squat about maintaining bikes and didn't ride it for maybe 8 of the 14 years I owned it, so it needs some TLC. I'm planning on using the bike to educate myself about mechanics and maintenance, but could use some advice.

I believe all the components are original/stock (sorry, no photos right now). Should I revive/restore 'em, or just replace 'em? Everything's a little rusty (chrome is spotted, frame has a few dings and some surface rust but not much) but functional.

Any help/advice appreciated!

We'll need some pictues.......

Odds are its an '88 as there was no Bordeaux in '87. The '89 bike had the 'splash/paint' style decal as shown in the following link"

https://cyclespeugeot.com/images/1989_Peugeot_10.jpg

In general the first number is the year followed by what
I believe to be the month of production Y702 would be Feb. of '87 while Y710 would be November.

I'll get some pics soon, but probably not until Monday at the soonest.

I'd looked at your site pretty thoroughly before posting here, so I'd narrowed it to before '89 and had guessed '87 based on the SN (which I actually think is Y712).

Thanks for the reply.

Looks like an '88!! Comparing the pics in post #16 to pics in post #20 you can see the difference in blues.

Tim, does yours still have paper sticker? If it does what are the numbers?

+1. Definitely a 1988. The saddle is an obvious replacement, but so too is the bar tape. The other components appear to be OEM.

Yup. I put on the bargin bin sadle and new bar tape. I may have the original sadle around, but it was in tough shape (and that might not even be the original).

Are the other components of decent enough quality that I should put the time into restoring them (as much as possible)? I've got a friend with all the tools, so it would mostly be a time investment.
