Gazelle Champion Mondial #2 (Revision #3 - new photos 6/2)
What is better than owning one hand made of Reynolds 531 in the Netherlands Gazelle Champion Mondial?
Owning two.
I'm currently waiting on the sale of one more item from my Spring Cleaning sale (someone has dibs, but waiting on payment) before sending payment for this 78/79 Gazelle Champion Mondial A-Frame.
The new one will look very nicely right next to this one:
(posted just for East Hill, I was planning on waiting till the frame arrived for the announcement)

Veeeeeeery pretty. Love the color. Looking forward to the build-up and first-ride reports.

Congrats on a very nice acquisition. You and Marty are getting quite the little Dutch enclave down there. We may have to rename DFW to New Amsterdam. But you still don't have a Jan DeReus.

So, suggestions for bar tape and cable housing? I'm leaning towards white for the housing, probably standard black for the bars.

Siu, you crack me up.
what's better? not much (maybe 2 Zieleman frames)
Can't wait to see it built up, most definitely a classy looking frame.
Lynn, I think New York has rights to 'New Amsterdam' but I'm pretty
sure they don't have a de Reus!

You Know!? For Kids!
As an homage to the Fightin' Texas Aggies, I think you should look into maroon tape and housing.

White tape, sure, and housing sure, but not saddle. There is no period appropriate white saddle (I think). We don't want it looking like a late 80s bike. Unicanitor or brooks pro.

Not sure what color the Rolls saddle is that s70rguy is sending me, but it's most likely a black one. I may do white housing, but probably black tape. Hoods on the Universal levers are gum colored so have to take that into consideration as well.
note: I may run my Brooks B-17 on this bike for a while till I find the sport-touring frame for my SunTour gear.

I would go white tape/housings/saddle. It looks really sharp on that shade of blue.

Black Brooks B.17 or Professional, silver handlebar tape and silver (or if you are sincerely worried about giving it any '80s look, grey) brake cables.
Either that, or go with simple black cotton bar tape. Doesn't look that bad - works quite well the dark purple on this '85 Super Course:
Of course, this is far darker then your Gazelle, but it should work.
EDIT: What am I thinking? Cotton tape comes in blue...

I could do cotton over the specalized S-wrap I like to use. Otherwise the wrap comes in red, blue, black and white. Anyone ever tired cotton over a cork wrap?
speaking of cork... I do have a roll of black cinelli somewhere...

And the parts parade begins! Here's a sneak peak into what's going to be hanging on Gazelle #2.
Full group shot. Missing from the photo is seatpost / stem / bars / saddle / pedals. Most of those parts are still on their way along with the frame.
Universal Super 68 brakes. Barely had to take a damp cloth to these as CV-6 sent them to me in nearly perfect condition.
Universal levers. Also from CV-6. These I took some sandpaper to (400 and 1000 grit) to knock down some of the road rash before polishing them.
Campagnolo Nuovo Record cranks. Cleaned up the 42 ring, swapped on the 52 ring instead of the 53 that came installed. Cleaned up the crank some, but decided against going to the length of polishing it as I want to keep it looking original.
Pat. 84 Nuovo Record rear derailleur. So it was made a few years after the frame, doesn't bother me none.
And the front derailleur. Clamp band has been freshly polished up.
And lastly, the Simplex retrofriction shifters:

The plan today was to glue the tubulars, but instead think I'll wait till later this week and go over to the parents, maybe on Tuesday. More space to work outside there, and he's got mineral spirits to clean up the mess I'm bound to make. Also going to have a second set of wheels built to share between the two Gazelles. A set of record hubs laced to modern Mavic Open Pro rims. Should be good for going out with the club when I don't want to get 30 miles out in the country and have a flat.

And I never did make any comments, so I will have to just say that I like the way your two bikes compliment each other!

The way I've been collecting blown and or otherwise flat tubes the last month or so, I must be doing SOMETHING wrong. I've averaged one a week since late March now. Looks like we're in for a stormy rainy week here. So less riding and may make it difficult to find a good time to get over to the parent's. We shall see. Worse comes to worse I can always pull the wheels off Gazelle #1 for a test ride.
