my c&v bike helped me vote

Bike commuted today on my '80 Mclean/Silk Hope:

On the way home I stopped downtown at Morning Times for an iced americano, and noticed a news truck setting up, and a couple of suits on the sidewalk talking w/ a policeman. At first I thought something had happened, eventually I realized something was going to happen. Since I had not voted yet, and had not made up my mind who to vote for, I decided if a local (governor) or national candidate appeared that would sway my vote. I finished my drink and headed on to my lbs to talk junk. Rode back by the morning times on my way home about an hour later, and there is a small crowd outside. I pull up at the light, ask someone what am I looking at, he says "barak obama". I make him out meeting and greeting on the sidewalk about 30' away. I'm pretty sure he noticed my bike and made a mental commitment to keep vintage bikes in mind for future transportation policy decisions. Then I rode home and voted.

Obama's already got my vote (May 20 here in Oregon), but I'll be sure to ask him about his vintage bikes policy if I happen to run into him too.

Well, it's official; it looks like Obama is making a bid for Portland's fixed-gear vote. Will he be able to unite the fixed-gear hipsters and the C&V purists, or will we be facing another four years of the same old, divisive politics? It may be up to Portland now...

I'm for the FUTURE, because it brings HOPE for CHANGE, and it's not the PAST.

apparently this is on his website:

"As president, Barack Obama will re-evaluate the transportation funding process to ensure that smart growth considerations are taken into account. Obama will build upon his efforts in the Senate to ensure that more Metropolitan Planning Organizations create policies to incentivize greater bicycle and pedestrian usage of roads and sidewalks, and he will also re-commit federal resources to public mass transportation projects across the country. Building more livable and sustainable communities will not only reduce the amount of time individuals spent commuting, but will also have significant benefits to air quality, public health and reducing greenhouse gas emissions."

Will he be doing anything to criminalize the act of chopping off derailer hangers and cable stops?

Obama has the lock on the fixie crowd with the spoke cards and drinking PBR. This is an easy shot, but it is pretty obvious McCain is all about C&V and he is testy enough for Fifty Plus. Not sure where Clinton is though, maybe Tandem Cycling?
