Belknap "Bluegrass" tricycle

I'm eyeing an old three speed trike with a large rear basket. It's a pretty fascinating looking beast, and while I've never had a trike past my second birthday, it looks like it could be a formidable utility hauler. It seems to be in pretty good condition. Does anyone know anything about the Belknap company? I've turned up references to the thing with web searches, but no real info on the history or general time frame of the company.

One thing has become obvious to me in searching eBay for references to Belknap. It is/was a general hardware company which used the brand name "Bluegrass" for a large part of its line, much the way Sears markets tools under the Craftsman name. This means they probably contracted with some other company to manufacture the trike. I'll have to inspect further and see if there are any markings on the thing which will indicate who manufactured it, when and where.

I just acquired a 1956 Belknap 3 speed tricyclewith large rear basket. It has it's original robin egg blue paint and label that reads: Made in Louisville, KY for Belknap. I would like to learn more about the company and the tricycle. Any info would be be greatly appreciated. I will try and post a picture of it.

Various bike companies in the day sent unbadged bikes(such as Huffy and AMF), to Belknap Hardware and Manufacturing a big company here in Louisville from like 1886 to 1985. As a Louisvillian, born and raised, I love nostalgia and historical items. Would love to find one of these bikes, I don't think many exist here, if any, as rare as they are. The popular ones are the "Zep" frames, which I believe were so used as Rollfast frames.
