Going back in time a bit, to this:
I've got a problem with trying to force people who aren't sure of something into this kind of ass-kissing servitude. If anyone asks a question succinctly, and respectfully, I'm happy to chime in with what I know and I'll do that as if I were speaking to an intelligent, sensitive being (until proven otherwise). No hoops, no requirements, just a dull answer.
The above post IMO, comes from this idea that were doing the OP a favor by answering but, as Cyclotoine will attest (he really should at least), the relationship is symbiotic (if you happen to put 2 and 2 together often).
My other rant is the tendency for CV members to lowball their estimates. It's self serving and a touch malicious in my POV, when you've got the ear of the market to try and keep it low, just for the 'insiders'. Current value is easy enough to check and most here have agreed that the standard upcharge for a full CLA is worth around $100.
I'd like to propose a way to test the theory: I'll post three builds that are either for sale, currently on Ebay and/or just sold and ask people _without looking at the hammer_ to appraise. I'll bet most appraisals are at around 30% of their true value.

The very act of composing a detailed well-documented inquiry post instantly distinguishes you from what Charles Wahl upthread accurately characterizes as 'trolls'.
It might look like this...
'I came by this bike...'
'But because..........It's now time to sell'
'Because my garage is already too full with these other bikes I love even more....pix...pix....pix.'
'It's in perfect shape....pix...except for...pix...and...more pix'
'I found these past sales on eBay...pix...links...pix....prices.'
'And I found these original catalog pages by googling bikeforums.net. here are the links...'
'Anyway--I would guess I could expect about....on ebay. Any opinions?'
'But I prefer to sell on CL here in ...home town....Any opinions on value?'
'Many thanks!'

"Can you drop the pseudo-Oxford English syntax, I mean you like Raleighs, ok, I get it, but you don't have to act like Robert Ford. C&V is not your house, it is for all of us." QUOTE.
Yup, you wrote it.
"I mean"; should you not have written "I am mean!"
AND, of incidental note, you do not speak ("it is for all of us") for me.

I have been helped today! This forum rocks! If I want peoples opinions of a bicycle this is the forum I will ask it on. I have quit smoking 30 yrs ago, drinking 8 years ago, fasted for a month, eaten only non processed foods for almost a year, quit coffee and caffeine, work out and am now determined to bicycle as much as possible. I respect the sentiment of wanting to help those truly interested in their rides and the preservation of the vintage bicycles. Thanks to all for your assistance and I am sure I will learn about bicycles and you will all come to know me.

Welcome, Bill. Don't be too put off by the tone in parts of this thread. A couple of us had too much sugar and probably need a time out, but it's all part of being in the C&V family. And it is a family, and a damned good one.

That said, I write in the style I feel comfortable - provided it is good English - and I apologize if it is not to your liking. I'm not going to add "like, you know" as a precursor to every sentence of mine...dude
That is to say, we need a nice, big "WELCOME" thread that outlines what we're here for, what we can do, what we can't do, and where you can find info - i.e., un-sticky the old C&V Links, Frame Painters, Selling/Read This First threads to reduce clutter, and link to them in the new all-encompassing sticky (which can be expanded as a nice big centrally-located resource), so that the old threads may be bumped at leisure, and fall below when not active. Great idea? Good idea? Not so good? Stinks?

You are most entitled to your opinion as to the thoughts of this thread, but I take offense when my style of writing or speaking is criticized for being too formal. Society has brainwashed you into believing that formality of language is stuffy and aloof.

Don't say that, Danny. I'm on the verge of dropping this thread - lost all hope for it. It is doing more harm to the community then good.
Might as well have the fellows have their fun at the newbies as they have in the past and forget about it.

Whatever Kevin Costner. The point of my post, which you have chosen to ignore, is that you are acting very childish. I try to get you to lighten up, using humor, but you continue to act like a sodding, cack dribbling, radgie, gobblebox watching, assumptive fred. I am (speaking only for myself of course) sick and tired of you red-ass behavior.

On this internet I choose to judge a man by his writing, and if he is sloppy and lazy while considering that to be unimportant, then I will dismiss that man as equally unimportant.
We _are_ writing our own resumes here on the internet.
And back to the post castigating Kurt's writing style . . . . shame on the writer of that; did he have no valid comment to add to the thread but somehow needed to lash out in anger at the OP?

Ok, this thread has gone on long enough. It has brought out some rather ugliness in many of us that is really unneeded. We are a community here, and a close knit and helpful one at that. Lets stop focusing on our differences, even if they are of opinion, and get back to enjoying the discussion about bicycles. Remember that everyone is entitled to their opinion, and that while you may not always agree with that opinion we should respect that they are entitled to those opinions. This thread is now closed.
