Fancy colored racks

Okay, I've noticed in some of these beautiful pictures I have seen in the C&V forum that the bicycles have racks that match the color scheme of the bike. I remember seeing a red rear rack on one and thought it was absolutely stunning.

My question is, do you buy the racks colored or is it a DIY paint job? I'm going for a green and white scheme on my bike and the black racks could certainly help if they were white.

I'm not sure I'd DIY a rack paint job. (Panniers might chew the paint up in short order) What I might consider is to have the rack powdercoated..

I saw a red Blackburn rear rack a few weeks ago. It looked cool. Not sure how old it was.

True on the panniers, didn't think about that.

My racks are aluminum, that can be powdercoated, but with certain considerations different than steel, yes?

Trek offered color coordinated racks with tsome of the touring models in the 80's. I sold a 1984(?) 620 with a matching blue Blackburn rack. I would second a powder coating for color rather than paint. That said, the powder coating will eventually get chewed up as well.

The black racks are anodized. They can anodize in other colors; I would look for colored anodized racks, or, if you can't find them, take one to a plater and have it anodized yourself (if you want the color to last).

EDIT: Ooops, didn't see that you want white. Not sure whether white is available as an anodized color. Powdercoating *may* be your most durable option.
