Help ID'g this Basso frameset?
Hi ... this is for sale for $75 ... I've searched through the archives for Basso and frameset and TT but can't seem to find anything on this curvy frame. Would it be worth it, even just to build a basic bike for riding around town? This would be a first project for me.
Thanks, Aldo

I just finished Googling some more. I guess this is a "pursuit" frame or something like that. I doubt it would be comfortable riding around town if it is really raked forward ... :-(

I'm going for a drive Saturday to check it out. I just might buy it for the heck of it. The Basso family live not too far from where my dad was born and raised in Italy. I think he would even get a kick of out this.

Basso bikes are nice. At the price with the (victory?) campy components it's good. However the geometry is not so great unless you can fit on it with the seat quite low.
Check the 1st digit in the serial number to know the year of manufacture.

This is a time trial frame and most were built to a geometry that required a 650c front wheel (not all though, so you'll have to try a 700c front wheel and see if it fits). These bikes have the rider in the tuck position (on the drops, as it were) always and probably wouldn't be the most comfortable daily riders. That said, I do see people here in NYC that ride these 100% of the time they're riding.

Not a great riding around kind of frame but they are becoming VERY popular with the fixed gear set. I sold a Limongi TT bike recently and the owner has built it up with risers and I do like the look. The Basso is worth MORE than $75 in my opinion, and I wouldn't think twice about buying it.

Update! I Bought It This Past Saturday!
Here are some more pics:
https://s42.photobucket.com/albums/e3...view=slideshow
I spoke to the owner for about an hour. He got the frame for nothing when his buddy moved out west and was cleaning house. He was the original owner (I think) and he did have it built up and raced it some.
We tried test-fitting some wheels but it looks like it takes only 650c size.
This will be my first build. I need a headset for this thing (the guy gave me a Cinelli stem) and pretty much everything that you don't see!
Any help, comments, etc will be greatly appreciated!
