Yes, opoefiets is what people abroad call 'Dutch bikes'. In Holland there are more bikes than people. Roadbikes represent a relatively small fraction, but they are still very numerous. Roadracing is a very popular sport. Many people are doing it. There is interesting history, people, brands and more. I do not think it has to be ignored as the utilitarian bikes outnumber the roadbikes.Quote:

I do not have intentions to build it up soon, but the frame will be a great starting point for the l'eroica or similar event. I think for that it will get used. Probably Nuovo Record or all black early Dura Ace would be the way to go. The frame is from 1975.
Here's a Gazelle Champion Mondial AB frame I build up recently. It's now mostly Shimano 105, only the cranks are Ofmega and the shifters are the original Campagnolo - Gazelle panto'd.

Well, anyone who's been following the C&V sales forum will know that big chainring decided to sell his Cera, that he first posted a few pages back....
Well, I thought, that's a good size for me... and I have all the parts I need for a not-too-anachronistic build... and I weakened.
Then I thought about how good those gold Mafac 2000's look on it, and I persuaded him to sell me the brakes, too. I didn't really need the brakes, but thought they were cool! Also included with the frame were the Zeus seat post, Campy BB and Stronglight headset.
The frame arrived yesterday and I built it up right away:
The wheels are actually the first pair of wheels I ever built, Super Champion 'Gentleman' rims on Campy low flange hubs. I should rebuild them with better spokes but they seem okay for now.
I've had the Avocet pedals since 1983... I've put thousands of miles on those, too.

I accidentally/on purpose left out the country of origin in the list of the parts I installed. But if you look over the list, not only are France and Italy well represented, but England, Spain and Germany as well. I suppose I should have gone for Weinmann stuff so I could put Switzerland and/or Belgium on the list, but I couldn't resist the Mafacs. With the exception of the shifters and derailleurs, it's all European.
What do you think about my idea of putting a Rijksuniversiteit Leiden decal/sticker on the seat tube? I have one, white on a blue background, that I think would look pretty good there....

M'plaats has always been my little secret for finding good bikes, guess that
cat's out of the bag.
LOL, sorry for that. The FINDING is not the problem, usually, the FUNDING is. May I should start an export/facilitation business (even though I'm completely against an inept in the making of money on bikes).
