I got this track bike recently. I know that LeGrand was one of the builders behind Presto and that he biult for the Raleigh team. However I did not know that he also labeld bikes with his own name. Can anyone of the experts here d tell me a little more about the frame? For example i'm puzzled about the year of produktion. thanks.

Hi mr. Sausage, welcome to the forums. That's magnificent bike you got there! They are very rare indeed, cause he build them for a short period. On facebook, some of us on the Dutch thread are members of O.T.B., an Amsterdam based cycling group of which Jan's son Michel le Grand is also a member. He is the proud owner of a road version of your bike (different colour though). I've also seen another road version on a retro ride in Haarlem, a very very nice frame with C-Record all over it and he was the one setting the pace.

Anyways, if we fail to give you proper info, you can find his son on fb ;)

thanks for the pictures and infos. I knew about michel le grad. I think he road for the panasonic team. I remember seeing a pr6000 with his nametag on it once. I don't know if i want to harass him on facebook though. I wouldn't know what to say:) I was just wondering because I couldn't find even a single photo of a jan le grand labled bike on the internet, that's why I ask you guys.
It was offered on marktplaats about a year ago and I got lucky. So recently was a bit of an exaggeration. I like dutch frames in gerneral e.g. I got a Gazelle exception and Gazelle c.m. 653 RVS, both with stainless steel fork and rear triangle.

I know you're new to the forums, so I'll forgive you for not including the obligated pics when mentioning such classic bikes you supposedly own ;)

Michel will not feel herassed in any way, I feel. He's also a member of the o.t.b., so if you 'like' it, you will be in the same club. And I got the feeling he's proud of his father's legacy. Wouldn't you be?

I'll post pictures of the Gazelles in time. Whereas the Exeption is a finished project the C.M. 653 needs to be restored. When that is done I would love to do some kind of before and after post.

Bontekoe: I haven't gotten around to take my own pictures - this is the seller's - but here is mine. I actually spoke about this bike to one of Gerrit Bontekoe's grandsons, who is currently running the shop in The Hague with his brother.

The frame is a Reynolds 531 Viner, identifiable by the x-shaped cutouts in the lugs. The oily bits are Shimano 600 arabesque. The saddle is now a more appropriate Rolls, but the rims are toast, so it doesn't get ridden very much.

I have a concorde sold by bontekoe, with the original shop sticker.

BTW, Bontekoe is now my "L"BS, my apartment is pretty close to it now.

What an exceptional JJ... Hadn't seen one with Max tubing. Shame you sold it, but knowing as little as I do about your collection, the money probably went to a good cause.

So many beautiful bicycles that I know so little about.

I obviously should pay much better attention.

There was one of those Janssen MAXs being sold out of Israel on Ebay earlier this year. Very little info out there, on them..I assumed they were contract pieces from Italy.

I was going to buy it, but communication with the seller was "difficult" (possibly a language issue). Luckily I ended up with the Vittorio Strada MAX (with the help of Mel)...

Hey Z… Classic bikes get very little attention from the general cycling population in the US, and definitely in St. Louis.

It's a great ride though.

I've been riding her lately with Spada tubular wheels shod with Vittoria Corsa CXs…under 20# now for a 58cm MAX framed bike is pretty good, in my book!
