Finally finished one of my winter projects, the Zieleman crit bike in Concorde-disguise:

Who would paint a lovely Zieleman like that? Not that I don't like the Concorde paint scheme, not at all... It also makes the NR components look a little old fashioned compared to the frame. But I bet you just forget about all those things when riding it. Beautiful!

Riding it was a wonderful experience! Cornering is weird, super agile and responsive cause of the short wheelbase. The wheels are Campy Record on Nisi tubulars and the suntour freewheel makes the beautiful noise high end bikes made in the seventies. The gearing is ideal for the lowlands. Cannot be happier. Well except for the paintscheme maybe... One fine day, a repaint may be an option. But in my eyes, the crit racing genes and the Concorde scheme are a hint that this bike was raced by a rider on a sponsored Concorde team, but didn't want to stand down from his beloved Zieleman. He was right IMO.

btw The framenr seems to be saying it's from '79. Bike nr 14 from that year (for someone from Amsterdam, not a bad nr I might add )

Nice report on an attractive Zieleman.

FWIW I met a fellow last week that lives nearby in Wisconsin. Says he has a Zieleman in his collection that he purchased at a local racing shop that offered them a couple of decades ago. He has an impressive collection, so this may be quite possible. I'll see if I can't arrange for some pics for us.

I'd restore the Zieleman though(if you're gonna keep it..think the whole Zieleman look is much more striking than Concorde)unless as you were saying it was ridden for a Concorde team.

anyway here's a mid 70's Remy (which is on sale)
it's a bit of a mixture of parts and I put in some 80's wheels just because they fitted the bike

Not sure if this is actually Dutch, but with those colors I wouldn't dare post it anywhere else.

I bought the frame a couple of weeks ago because, well, umm ..., because it was orange and the small fortune I had come into from selling the Somec was burning a hole in my pocket.

I decided to use it as a test mule for the 180mm strada cranks Zieleman was kind enough to let me have last year.

It is a very roomy frame and the 700c wheels I tried first looked a little lost, so it's now on rather sturdy 27" Arayas with 1 1/8 Schwalbes at half a kilo each, which helps explain the weight of 12.2 kilos for the bike as pictured.

What a flamboyant bike, considering it's Dutch. So much colour! Strange to see something like this from a period of which almost everything I've seen of is grey...

If it bothers you, just imagine I'm 5' tall and those wheels are 24" ...

On a more serious note: those cranks don't feel too bad when riding. Different, but also kind of familiar, to be honest. The downsides are the lack of ground clearance and the mad toe overlap. It's really hard to not scratch those toe clips when walking with the bike, and slow cornering has suddenly become a much more thrilling experience.

It's the perfect Dutch bike i.e. Orange and named Ronde van Nederland
It's 60 cm will try and take some pics later this week...

Hi everyone,

I have a 1973 RIH that needs a paint job. The chrome and paint is in bad condition. I guess that rechroming is quite expensive so I am thinking of repainting the whole bike. Does anybody know a good painter in the area of Amsterdam? What is the price indication for sanding or sandblasting and a repaint with one color?

Hi Brands welcome.

Best option probably is he Rih shop it has reopened in march so they can be of service for you. Last time I was over there they were looking for the best painter options themselves for their restart. I don't know the current situation or price. Give them a call.

Another excellent option is a guy who has repainted my Presto for me: Leen Vrolijk who is located in Aalsmeer. leenvrolijk@hetnet.nl.

He will have the right masks for the RIH transfers and I think he will charge for basic sanding and painting a little bit more than 200 euro.

The pictures in it's current state and when it is finished would be very welcome by the way

This is my wifes 1980s sparta which I rebuilt including brazing broken seat stays! painting with left over BMW 2 pack, nos leper seat, reflective guards, brake cables and of course tyres! the graphics were just vinyl cut under clear coat! It was $38 at a local Auction.
