Thanks Juvela

Found some more pictures, to begin with some details on the 1989 AA Special.

And than the 1986 AB Special, to be built up with a Shimano 600 EX group. I have got most of the parts, but no wheels yet ... I had found a nice pair, good hubs included, but the previous owner had decided to throw them in the bin because the decals came of ...

Hajo, that '86 looks like mine, except that my components are not a single gruppo. It is a serious, coldly efficient go-fast bike.

Although hardly vintage, that Jan Janssen is very nice.

A nice family-run firm too. I've e-mailed them a few years ago regarding my early eighties Tour de France, and they promptly replied with a wealth of information.

good point and those topmount shifters must hail from the 1982-83 time...

luv the look of the finished springfield. very tasteful. fine colour selections. so often completed project bikes here at the forum display that "i have been worked on" look. but then the owner should be able to do what they like...

Thank you. I have to admit I'm rather pleased with the way it turned out as well. And I get to compliment all those GIOS riders with their nice fake Springfields.

that's the spirit! and you can remind them also that they should get their components pantographed springfield instead of that goofy gios name.

THE PAINT ON YOUR FRAME
Lovely bike! Beautiful colour. Gazelle really has had some very pretty paint throughout the years. I suspect that it is was supplied by Sikkens — another 'lowlands' entity — Dutch with its HQ still in Amsterdam. No small wonder really when you cast your mind's eye back to the glorious period of visual arts: Dutch, Belgian and Flemish.

My Gazelle AB has a red finsh on it that dazzles me — not in perfect condition, but repaired original paint. I don't even really relish red, but after a ride as I sit with my drink, I gaze and suck in its splendour — even after all these decades of wear and UV exposure.

More to my point, it is really about how they created "red" (in my case) and other colours. Red is often a very oxidizing coating — but not this one! Red is, IMHO, one of the most vexatious colours. A small difference in hue can either enchant or cause revulsion in a person who is not naturally attracted to the colour. (Personally I tend towards greens and blues.)

And your blue — well — I can see the old masters looking back at me when I look at your frame. Paint is just paint, and I try not to get obsessed about chipping and aging coatings. Professional repainting here in Japan is expensive. So far, I have avoided sending frames out to be professionally repainted. In Sendai — a city if one million and a region capital does not have anyone who specializes in such painting.

Gazelle finishes appear to be special. I suspect that in some cases, repainting them to be the same as the original would be a matter of chance and good fortune — of course and unless you got a Sikkens supplied painter to source a match. Other possibilities must surely be around.

YOUR TIRES
I may be wrong ... but a question: are those tires Vittorio "Stradas". They look like Stradas, but I thought that they were being produced for the Japan market only.

If they are — how do you like them? I have not glued mine on yet — but anxiously hoping to soon and ride them on my Austrian Simplon single speed. If I like them, my Gazelle AB well get them when the Rallys wear out.

Aluminium Zieleman

Currently working on this aluminium Zieleman. I got the bike with a mixed groupset including 126 mm record hubs, Modolo Orion downtube shifters, and first generation chorus monoplanar brakes.
Does anyone have an idea how old the frame is? I'm guessing late 80s.
I have found on this forum that Zielman sold aluminium bikes. Were did he buy the frames?
Thanks for your help!

No idea, but that's an interesting find. I wouldn't have thought there were aluminum Zielemans. Thanks for posting it.

Yesterday I picked up a very nice winter project!

After looking for such a frame or more than a year, I finally managed to buy one. This one is from 1993 and will be fitted with Dura Ace 7400 group.

Also I have found a complete Shimano 6207 group for my 1985 Gazelle AB, so that frame will be refitted this winter as well.

The Van Tuyl has been put aside since the front derailleur bracket has somehow been bent in such a way I can't get the derailleur on it properly.

Ooh, another nice Gaz, though a later one. And green. Very attractive frame. We don't see many green bike in C&V. Why is that, I wonder?

Finished my Simon. I bought the bike from a girl in Amsterdam about 5 years ago. Back home I disassembled the bike and over the years I cleaned everything and made it shine. Most is original, as how I bought it.

Brief specs:
Nuovo Record mechs, HF hubs, levers...
Super Record 1st gen seatpost
Sugino Mighty Competition chainset
Universal 68 brakes
Brooks Professional
Cinelli 1R stem

Arie Simon is a name in dernys. They are considered the best there are.

Just kidding.

That is a very beautiful bike, Mel. There's nothing about it that I don't like. Especially love the choice of parts. Must be one of the most elegant bikes on this forum. Any idea who built that frame? Klaas Kwantes?

I've cycled to the shop on my PEKA. The shop is still a bike shop, but no frame building there anymore. From the Zaandam visit:
