Worth about $100-$150, plus shipping. High shipping charges should hold the price down; lower shipping charges would make for a higher price.

In that condition, will probably go for about $150. No more than $200, and I would consider $200 to be crazy money for a Mirage. But people are asking, and occasionally paying, crazy money for C&V bikes these days.

Not sure that's a '76. Not sure they made a Mirage model that year. Might be later. 1980? It's a lower end of the line bike. You can check a couple of catalogs here:

I think you're right. That "M" on the seat tube came after 76. Those wheel reflectors are the same as on my 77 GT. I'd guess 78-80, based on that script.

Taller bike, does it fit? The current bid price is reasonable but shipping will double, maybe triple the price. If you live near Boise, Idaho that would help as you might be able to pick it up.

I like old Motos alot but Mirages are not real special. The Mirage was one step up from the entry level Nomade. The main differences were mostly cosmetic, not functional. It's a heavy bike, even for its time period probably close to 30# as it has a heavy frame and steel rims.

On the + side it does look to be in good shape and there are good pics. Motos are always amongst the best looking vintage bikes, even their lower line ones. It should ride very well though the steel rims are, IMO, problematic; hard to true and sub par braking performance.

Mirages tend to sell for 45-70$ or so and that looks to be where this one will end up. Figure worst case scenario for shipping and the bike might cost you close to 200$.

Worth it? Many would say no but you won't find anything new for that money worth having and if you ride the heck out of it you certainly wouldn't have wasted any money.

If you're not in Idaho how's the used bike market where you live?

I live in oklahoma. Surprisingly the bike market is not as hot as I thought it would be. Having trouble finding a bike under 400$ that actually fits me. would go cheaper online if it was a steal. I really just want a good starter road bike to test this sport out and hopefully shed a few pounds. There is something kind of novel about getting on a bike and riding as far as you can. IMHO

For the record, I believe the ecotone from 1020 tubing to 2040 tubing was 1977 (former) and 1978 (latter). The bike in question has 2040 tubing. Among the few differences between the Mirage and Super Mirage were the crowns on the fork, the pedals, and the wheels. Most relevant to this bike is that it has Rigida rims (like the Mirage) and not Weinmann alloy rims (like the Super Mirage was supposed to have). tom

I suggest you put a want to buy ad on your area Craigs List. I would put it in the for sale section, just list it as: WTB: Quality Road Bike Up to $400. I would also consider a rigid mountain bike or a hybrid in the under $200 range, you should find a good one.
