Dia Compe/Gran Compe 98* series cantilever brakes
Went looking for a recent thread where I as arguing the merits of these and came up lost. I really am enamored of these and polished up a set of 986's to use on a ridiculously expensive build I'm almost finished with:
Seems that I'm not alone in finding these worthy:

I find that though they're a friggin bear to set up and only middling in arm stiffness, they work extremely well and have a classic look that surpasses the Mafac arms that they're an homage to. These are some of the only canti's that'll work with narrow front fork stud spacing.

They certainly do look nice and I agree that they look stiff...and are probably a pain in the butt (like most older canti's) to set up - but they don't look like 986's that I'm familiar with. <insert appropriate emoticon here...>
Absolfreakinlutly lovely bike, btw. Do you have more photos?

And an extra of the whole bike:

They look like 981s, not 986s. Dia-Compe made a whole range of cantilever brakes.
