Dismantling front rod brake

I have a 1943 Junior bicycle, austrian made wehrmacht military bicycle that I am taking appart to restore.

I can't remove the front rod brake (the type that goes through to mudguard and presses onto the front tyre) to allow the front mudguard to be removed. Has anyone got any advice?

I have removed the front wheel, the handlebars have been removed to disconnect the actuating rod. There is a threaded brass rod that goes through the headstock into the tube that contains the return spring that returns the front brake to the rest postiion. This rod passes through the bracket that attatches the front mudguard to the headstock.

How do I get the mudguard off?

Bump

Anyone have any clues?
I'd have better idea of what's going on with pics to visualize. Got pictures?

I have a Rudge with rod brakes but the front brake's rod's do no pass through the mudguard.

From the bars and levers there is a rod that goes into a sleeve with a retaining nut that then connects to the brake... loosening that nut and seperating the rod and sleeve disconnects the brake from the bars.

We're gonna need some good pics here as a lot of these old bikes have proprietary designs that may be very unique... English bikes tend to have the same type of rod brake setup and it seems like this differs from the Austrian / German design a fair bit.
