Team Miyata Serial Number

Helping a friend with an early 80's Team and trying to pin down the year.

Serial number is J894974 56D.D.

The bike has lost some of it's original parts but there's still a lot of the DA AX stuff left. The brakeset is the centerpull type with aero routing on the levers.

So why does a 56cm size have a 54 c-t seat tube?

All the frame specs match the D.D.560 in this catalog reprint:

I have Koga Miyata starting with ''J''. I am not know the exact year, but I am sure my bike is a '81 or '82 model. Without a doubt T-Mar will be able to tell you the exact year.

My bike is a 58DD and the seat tube measures approx 56cm. DD denotes the frame is desinged for use with Dynamic Drive pedals. On the DD pedals your foot rests slighty under the (virtual) axle, hence the shorter seat tube. Lenght is like of a 58 bike. The idea behind the DD concept is to minimize drag and to lower the point of gravity. The pedal's desing itself also allows you to go more flat trough the corner.

Thanks, that makes sense. I always wondered what the DD stood for, I thought it was just a code they used on the Team's, as the Pro's I've had did not have the DD stamping.

Any idea where to get parts for the Dyna Drive pedals? I need to find some clips.
