Le Tour frame--Deal or No Deal?
Picked this up from Craig's List in Indy. Supposed to be a Le Tour, possibly late '70s or early '80s. Serial number on BB says G838024, and also has a number 840 stamped on the bb between the rear chain stays. Seller was in process of creating a FG, he spray bombed it red, and the forks white (I think he was an IU grad). It looks pretty godd for a spray bomb job, but could be better. Paid $75 for it. It is a 62cm, which is just right for me. The pics are not the best, but it has downtube shifter braze-ons, rear dropouts with derailleur hanger, one set of bottle cage braze-ons.
Tell me what you think...Deal, or no Deal?

I can't see the pics from here at work, but since it has a derailleur hanger, I am guessing early 80's, and possibly chromoly since my 1979 LeTour IV's used claw type rear derailleurs... and shortly after them, I believe the LeTour line moved to chromoly. But I am not sure about anything other than what is on my LeTour IV's.
Someone may be by with real information shortly.

A year ago I would have thought you paid too much. But given the fast rising cost of bikes and you're in a metro area, you probably did OK, especially if you need that larger frame and if its chromoly. I watched two Schwinn Travelers just sell on CL for $80 and $120 in the North Carolina summer heat. They were listed for less than three days. Old road bikes sell, period.

Thanks for the comments! I found the link to the Schwinn online brochures, and without doing any serious research on the serial number, it is at least an '86:
