Serotta Nova Special - any good? too pricey?

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1984 Serotta Nova Special. It is said to be in minty condition. It comes with a Mavic grouppo from 1992 except for the brakes which are Dura-Ace and the shifters which are dura-cae bar-end shifters.

It has two sets of wheels: Training Clincher Wheels-Campy High Flange Hubs, Mavic aero rims-Sapiem db spokes. The "Race Tubular wheels" are Mavic sealed bearing Hubs and Mavic Aero tubular rims. Also includes a Mavic BB Tool kit for chamfering. Chorus seat post.

The bike has been raced a lot I guess. Cat 1 and Cat 2.

They want $500

The price seems a tad high to me. I don't know much about these older Serottas other than they are Columbus SL tubing. Any feedback?

Guy

great frames, and I'm a fan of that Mavic stuff (especially the hubs). My questions: if it was raced has it been *crashed*?
Why the Mavic BB chamfering tool (is this a "bonus" or has the BB threading been stripped?)? Lastly: what price?
edit: and lose that Modolo stem: fuggly

Doh! They want $500. The Mavic tool comes with the bike because I guess they used to own a bike store and used it to initially install the Mavic BB which the tool is needed for.

As for if the bike has been in a crash, I am taking their word it is minty condition.

I love those Modolo stems, but then again, I love the Mavic Starfish crank too.

$500. Good? Bad? Ugly?

I don't know about that, they sold bikes to Huffy for a short time. They can't be that good.

* run, don't walk back and buy that bike.

$500 seems very reasonable to me. I bought one this year for $175, but it wasn't that nice and had Campy Victory on it, and I like it a lot.

If it fits, why are you waiting?

Or is this just a case of "if its such a good deal... why has it not been snapped up yet"?

Trust your judgement.
