I am a noobie just starting to get into cycling and I am saving for a new bike. I was given this bike and I have no idea what it is. I did some research couldnt find a thing. I believe it is from the 70's maybe 60's. The only label on it is Keno made in Japan and 10 speed. It seems to be in pretty good condition and is rideable (I think it has newer tires not the originals). Im not sure if I would be able to trade/sell this and get anything toward my new bike or maybe restore it, not sure. Any help or information concerning this bike would be a huge help. Thanks

Hum, looks like a rare brand, but that doesn't mean it is worth a lot.
It appears to have stamped dropouts and fairly cheap components.
I would say more likely mid to late 70s or maybe early 80s. Unless
you are in a really hot local bike market, I would say you are not going
to get rich on it. Boston you could get close to $100 but that is because
there is pretty strong demand for anything that works.

The components are early 1970s and typical of entry level bicycles. From the one photo, the rear dropouts appear to plugged and crimped into the chainstays. This construction was normally found on department and hardware store 10 speeds. There would be little of value here, to a knowledgeable cyclist.

I realize that this is a two year old thread, but I thought the information might help anyone else who stumbled into this.

Keno Bicycles were imported into the Philadelphia PA area by the department store magnet John Wanamaker for sales exclusively in his stores in 1969-1971. I purchased mine in April of 1969 for $90. It was a great bike. Heavy compared to the DX3000 I replaced it with, but I rode that bike everywhere for 16 years. I actually rode that bike from Stroudsburg PA (the mountains) to Philadelphia (150+ miles) in one day. I lived on that bike. I finally gave in to a friend that owned a bike shop and purchased the DX3000 I currently ride in July 1985.

I had a purple one which was my first 10 speed when I was 13 years old. It was sold by the Benny's department store in Danielson, CT. Looks like yours except for the color. I remember the red stripe on the chainguard. It had unique cantilever brakes with a proprietary mount, impossible to get brake pads for. When I worked at the bike shop, we used to change out the brakes for standard side or centerpulls. It had 40x48 chainrings, a little too low top gear for me. I sold it in 1975. I took that bike on my first bike camping trip in 1973, 80 miles each way from Putnam, CT to Mt. Monadnock, NH.

That bike today is literally worthless, it was very low-end, but it served me well as a teenager and sparked a lifelong love of cycling.

Saw a few of these "in the wild" here in California where I am located as well. Wonder if there was a west coast chain store which also stocked them. The 1969 date sounds spot on from what I have observed here.
