Frame size

Hi all,

Just picked up a bike for my father (old Dawes road bike - needs a bit of a clean up...) and the frame size seems a tad small:

Bottom bracket to seatpost clamp - 20 inches
Seatpost clamp to stem - 22 inches

Will that suit a man of around 6 foot?

Cheers

Chris

Sounds a bit small to me. I would think a 23 inch bike (seatpost) would be the minimum for a 6 footer.

I'm 6 feet tall and I ride a 24" (C-T seat tube) bike. However, I like a tall fit on my bikes. There is some variation allowed in sizing, but the 20" is probably too small.

I don't believe your father would be very comfortable on a frame that small. Like yohannrjm, I'm 6 feet tall and ride a frame with a 24" (61cm) seat tube measured from the crank center to the top of the seat tube.

It sounds as though the frame is several sizes too small. Your dad will probably feel cramped and unable to open up his chest to breath properly.

I am 6' and I ride about the smallest frames I have heard of for a 6' tall rider, and I ride a 22-23" frame depending on the bike.

The only potential 6' riders I can think of that would be riding 20" frames would be the fixie riders with the really huge seat to bar drop.

Ok fair enough - I'll let him know.

Why is it that a fixie rider would have this setup of huge seatpost and small frame?
