80's Peugeot Redo?

Hey all-

I've got a mid-80's Peugeot Carbolite 103 that I got from a fix-up shop to ride back & forth to school on. It's a 12-gear, and I love it, but one big thing I've noticed - it does not do steep hills well, and I live in the middle of the mountains (yeah I know I should've thought of that before but it is gorgeous and affordable, etc etc).

I know next to nothing about bikes, at all, seriously, so I was wondering would it be murder to try and put a triple crank set on it (if it's even possible), or should I just give it to a new home with someone who's in better shape than I am?

Pictures will be forthcoming, gotta hobble out there and take some.
