Mystery bike with a bad pic...
What is this thing. It's non aero but has chrome forks and semi modern brake calipers. I like the color scheme too. Motobecane maybe? Raleigh?,,,,BD

Circus or not I've always liked the red and black one that someone posts on here from time to time. Very classy. I guess it will all come down to seeing it in person, eh?,,,,BD
As for the fork, it could have bent I guess? Possibly changed to use the 80's brakes as well though? Those are definitely Shimano-ish from the late eighties. |
Color scheme also looks like some Vistas I've seen, but then again, I did have a Motobecane Mirage that looked like the photo.

Is that a Miyata unicycle?
|
I had a "Jetter" that was that color recently. Said made it Pennsylvania on it but all the parts said made in Japan.
Had a Moto that color too. Both bikes had red cable housings. Tre sheik. |
You can barely make the letters out on the top tube, but it does indeed say Grand Record. Forged drops, Shimano brakes, Nervar Star cranks, and a nice set of arabesque 600 FD/RD and shifters. He was telling me over the phone it was worth $300 and was a "531 LE". Ummm yah... He took $100 for it though. Frame has the stays/forks/main tube 531 decal. I'm happy with the purchase. Pics tomorrow.,,,,BD
The Brooks Pro is beyond help though. Too dry for too long, sigh..... |
Good pickup. Now you have a $49 budget towards the grand prize :)
|
Upon closer inspection..... The FD is the oldest looking Dura Ace I've ever seen. The Campy BB cable guide is still clamped on, and the clamp of the old destroyed Campy FD is being used as the seat tube stop. It also still has the Campy headset, which is a nice surprise. I'm sure it's a total Frankentein, but someday it will be a nice rider!,,,,BD
Actually I was thinking it would make a nice fixie!!:love::love::roflmao2: |

Awsome find BD,
That bad boy should clean up nicely. Were those brakes 600 too? |
Nah, 105. The levers look like early aero Shimano, but have the cable sticking out of the top. Calipers are typical later 80's shimano style. Handlebar/stem look like they came from a mid 80's Peugeot, both CTA like on my PH10LE. I will be a happy man if I can find one of those original "lugged" stems. Maybe at the next bike swap meet. I have some 1985 long reach 600 calipers, and a set of Mafacs. Tough call, but the Mafacs would look more era correct at least. Thank goodness I bought that UO-10 a couple of weeks ago, :D,,,,BD
