So if I understand this correctly: your ex-boyfriend's bike gift was the "Stalker" model?

Hmmm...the punch lines almost write themselves...

Well this was your first post in the forum as a new member, and you responded to a thread that was started 9 years ago. Usually that happens when somebody is Googling something unusual. Sometimes there's a good story behind it.

Enjoy your bike and the nice weather.

That could very well be a Schwinn. From the picture, it looks like a Schwinn flat blade fork.
Schwinn did and does make the cantilever frame. (I think 1955 was the year Schwinn first brought it out.)

Hmmm, you got me curious. I contacted Huffy regarding the serial number on the headtube but the fork is what has me thinking maybe it's a franken build from way back. It looks like either primer or a light red is underneath the blue on the frame.

I'm extremely new to this realm of older bikes so I look forward to learning as I build.

I hope that a Huffy expert is following this old thread, I have an uncommon Chromed Huffy frameset that takes 27" wheels and in an unusually large 24" frame size.

Serial number along the lower left side of the headtube reads HC1836232.

Also there is a 1/4" hole along the top of the downtube about 6" ahead of the bb shell, which appears to have been made at the factory as the chrome is still intact around it's edge.

I bought this as is, no decals or badge came with it, so I test-fitted 27" wheels/tires to see if the clearance and brake reach was within reason, it checked out.

All of the dimensions and angles are identical to a 24" Schwinn Varsity or Continental, but I can't remember seeing a Huffy frame in this size.

Perhaps the serial number indicates 1981? I would sure like to know what model it is/was, as I would have decals made, but I will likely just invent an appropriate graphics ensemble to match a standard Road build.

Anyone care to take a stab at identifying this one?

Thanks.

Yeah this bike has me stumped. Calling Huffy tomorrow with the serial number but I have a feeling the fork isn't original and the rear hub is a bendix red band. Don't know too much about them but I feel like a nice hub like that wouldn't come stock on a huffy. Might be wrong though, hoping those Huffy experts are on this thread lol

Interesting! I'm just finding out about all the old Huffy bikes that used the schwinn Cantilever frame design like the Silver Jet, Galaxie, Ranchero, and others so I'm realizing that's most definitely got to be what I got. It's cool knowing what it used to be to what it is now and what it will be when I'm finished.

I'm thinking about unassembling and re assembling the Bendix Hub using this page and then getting the patch down at the bottom. pgbikes
