Rear Der Compatibility - from Huret to Superbe

Hello,

I have an ~85 Peugeot road frame. I stripped off the clunky "Sachs Huret Rival" friction-shift deraileurs. Will a Suntour Sprint 9000 R Der. (indexed shifting) work with the cassette that worked with the Sachs? They both are six-speeed deraileurs. If I do need a new cassette to run the Suntour, are they easy to find?

Thanks for any help,
Alan

Alan,

Dont count on anything being index compatible. During the 80's Campy indexing wasnt compatible with itself and Suntours systems weren't much better. If you want a rock solid, inexpensive reliable system go with Shimano.

To answer your question.....your current gears will only work if the center 2 center spacing is the same as Suntours center 2 center spacing. If its not the same you need a new 'freewheel' (no such thing as a suntour cassette) and yes, they can be found through the usual sources.

To locate your parts I'd try one of the sticky threads up top first and then ebay.

Thanks for the help. Looks like a new rear wheel with shimano parts will be the upgrade instead. Cheers,
Alan
