Identify a Peugeot

Hi, can anyone identify the model and maybe a year. I was given this and another Peugeot frame. This is the nice of the two and I considering building it up to be a commuter. There is no serial number on the bb and looks like someone ground off something from the bottom of the chainstay near the bb.

Thanks,

DA

It appears to be a Peugeot UO8 from the period 1976-1978. I also would not rule out a 1978 U09, however they are generally seen with a slightly different fork cown. Jim should be along shortly to confirm or correct my errors.

T-Mar, you nailed it. Everything points to a '76-'78 frame, decals, 'braze-on' style and it could be UO9 as the frames appear to be identicle.

Jim, do you think it could be as late as 1979? I thought the '79s had switched to the seat tube decal with the fading checkboard pattern?

Thanks so much. And for the link to cyclespeugeot.com. I think I've identified the second frame as a 1975 PH8CE. It's bottom bracket decal says 5314646 PH8CE 57. There are pictures at:

Your head badge is identical to my 1975 UO8, but the decals are significantly different.

Here are pics of mine (I bought it new in the fall of 1975). Alloy crank on my bike is an upgrade I made decades ago:

wrk,

Your headtube badge and the OP's overlapped at least 2 different schemes.

Scroll down to the bottom of this link: https://www.cyclespeugeot.com/ModelID.html for a decal/head badge chart.

dstarda... your red bike is simply a 'PH8' 'CE' is a color code and 57 is the frame size..

Miami Jim: You nailed it. My 1975 has a type III head tube badge, a type II seat tube decal, and a type III downtube decal.

thanks!

And I'd also say that it is not from 1975 as stated by dstarda. It appears to be circa 1980/1981 and another anomaly to the serial number system.

The red one has a pretty serious gash in the chainstay.

Hi, thanks for the input. What kind of cranks did you upgrade to? I'm going to be looking for parts for this gray fame.

Yes, it does have that spot on the chain stays. Almost looks it was dropped on something or ridden with the kickstand down.

Tom, the paper numbers are more of a model specific sequential number while the 'stamped' number is a frame specific number and should indicate the year/month of frame production.

The OP's bike is an '80 or '81 PH8. Cottered cranks were history by '82. I have feeling the stamped number, probably located on the left dropout, goes something like Y001 or Y101

Identify a Peugeot

I did find a serial number on the rear dropout of the red frame: Y002 14383
