I've got this on my Raleigh, a 77 Cyclepro which came off a Nishiki

It has a nice up lift on the top with the curve in the drops bending slightly inward. I had a SR bar on before to try these out. Once confirmed that I loved the feel of Rando bars I moved them to my Univega Sportour and put the Cyclepro on.

Same here! I have a set of the narrower Nittos that I used on a tour with a small front bag, and I think the 37 or so cm width across the hooks is my good spot. Problem with that for my Terraferma is that the Berthoud GB25 fills up that space a little more than I like - I think I need something that is 39 cm across the hooks, for that bag.

[QUOTE=The Golden Boy;16680168]B132 or B135?

Without going out to the garage in my PJ's, I think I have to say they are the 132's. That very distinctive "rise and fall" along with the commensurate angle of the drops is memorably obvious.

I am just about to mount a set of noodles on a 'Technomic' quill stem. They are going on a Gazelle AB frame with 531 forks. I am having a problem, and will have to cut the stem — exactly at the height I will have to predict I will need because the safety margin is so close to the actual height! And that margin is very close to the butt in the head tube extrusion. (GULP!)

If I succeed without screwing things up, I'll give you my impression of the noodle of the same width in a couple of days.

If you're looking for wide rando bars, VO sells nice ones in widths up to 50cm (-6cm for width on the tops). I've got a set on a bike and really like them. Long reach so you get a lot of roaming room behind the hoods. Bad news though - 26.0 only.

Grand Cru Chris's Rando Handlebar

The ramps and the drops are almost parallel too, which is great in my book.

I used to ride randonneurs all the time but I don't think I liked them so much as I was used to them. Over the last few years I have converted my rides to wider flat bars. As a result the randonneurs now feel "funny" and I now have a pile of about 15 sitting on a shelf in my shed. Most people I meet want the latest and greatest carbon fiber wonders. No one seems to appreciate the old stuff or wants to restore with authentic parts bars or otherwise.

I put some Nitto Randoneur bars on my Viscount. I like the flared drops with the guidonnet levers; with standard drops you lose hand clearance with the guidonnets.

I was just bumping this because I was hoping to find some "rando bend" bars like the Nitto B132 but wider at the hoods than the 44 bars are.

Modern Bike has the really great QBP pix like what Col. J. Lloyd posted:

Nitto Randonneur

B132:

B177 Noodle:

B115

105

I have a set of the Nitto B132 bars- I like the bend- I love that long area on the ramps. The flare puts the levers in a great place for braking for me. The only thing is they're a bit too narrow at the hoods.

I love Suntour Command Shifters, they mount inboard of the brake levers. I also have front rack bag- there's not enough distance between the shifters to fit the bag. While the setup works with the B177 bars at 46, I prefer the shape of the B132. Just wondering if anyone had any other ideas...

My favorite bar! Schwinn used this model on Continentals, Super Sports and Sports Tourers. I have them on at least 4 or 5 of my bikes and they are by far the ones I like best!

Took 2 Sakae Randonneurs, quite narrow ones .. cut them up on opposite sides of the sleeve to make 1 adequately wide handlebar
in a custom stem made with 2 sets of bolts 4" apart .. clamping what was the centers of the 2 bar portions..

So it was 42cm wide on the top..

I can't imagine a more perfectly shaped randonneur bar. My 76 Raleigh GS sports a GB Randonneur, and I have another one in my parts bin waiting for me to decide which of my other bikes needs it the most (N+1 maybe?).

My lucky day at the Stump Dump over the weekend yielded a too small '78 Schwinn Continental II in terrible shape--- but--- that model was built with my favorite GB Rando bars!

Add another one of these to the stock pile.

No wonder the rest of us can't find GB Rando's anymore - YOU guys are hoarding them all!

(Good idea, BTW.)

Bob,

What's the width at the hoods for those guys?

About 36cm center to center just behind the hoods on the few I was able to quickly measure this morning.

The nice thing I really like about the GB Randos is the outward flair of the top sides, and then the shallow drop and further flair outward of the bottom drops. I find this really comfortable in both positions compared to more traditional drop bars. Also, because I have relatively short fingers and short arms for a 6' 1" fellow, I can stay in the drops on these Randos and comfortably operate the brake levers over long distances. I find that on the traditional bars my hands can barely reach the levers from the drops. Thus making braking from the drops challenging.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks for measuring for me Sir!

I'm hoping to find that nice flare at the hoods with a distance of around 44 at the hoods. Not that I'm a big guy at all, just speccing the bike to work with my toys!

Old thread, but since it's been bumped...

I really dig rando-style bars on bikes where I expect to spend most of my time in the drops (generally with much less saddle-to-bar drop.) Those flared drops put my wrists at more of a natural angle, and bikes with those bars have a unique look. My "rando bike" has a set of 42cm GB bars, and the fixed-gear has a set of 42cm VO Grand Cru bars.

I could take or leave the upswept tops, though -- despite what some say, my palms don't seem to be more comfortable when the bar rises to meet them in the center. (I wonder if they were originally an artifact of flaring the drops.)

Somehow I managed to just skip over this post- I've never had any VO stuff before, but I saw them mentioned in another thread- I think this looks like what I'm looking for.

The Rando bar has a medium drop, 130mm. The reach (measured from the stem clamp forward) is about 120mm. Available in 42, 44, 46, 48, and 50cm measured from center-to-center at the ends; there is 60mm of flare.
