Bottecchia follow up.......

Remember the Bottecchia chained at the beach with C-record?

Well, the owner got flaky or cold feet (as did I). I could have snagged it that first night, but sometimes you just gotta let it go.

I hesitated because it was going to be a heartbreaker, frame too big and scunned up parts.

No big deal. I won't press the issue, but if he calls back I will get it and offer the goods to C&V.

My dive buddy was the one that insisted that a note was left, I was devastated at such disregard for a fantastic bike.

HEARTBREAKER

Got a call, he's back in town and still seems willing to unload it for 150 bones.

It just dawned on me, I can anodize the C-record stuff flat black with Mil-Spec hardcoat (I have components anodized this way twice a week). Lightly sand out any scun, and run the parts through the parts treatment room, then have them anodized. An all black group of C-Record would be awesome.

We will see what happens tonight when I check it out again.

What size is the frame? Do you want to sell the frame and keep the Campy stuff?

I already have a lineup on the frame, but it looked like a 57-58. It was dark, and I went off of the headtube, but the TT might be mega short. If it goes through I will post pics.

Got it.

Full C-Record, no parts were swapped from the original, to include the wheels.

Black duct tape for handlebar tape, no hoods.

Test ride last night.............full blown ROCKET.

Campagnolo Omega rims etc.

"Campione del Mondo 1966-1985-1986" Badges all over.

"Carnielli 1909-1989" badge, and "Carnielli Hand Made" "Made in Italy" etc.

Columbus "Acciaio Speciale" (the usual)

Quick measurement 57.6 C to C (trained eye! good guess)

Post pics later

The 1909-1989 sticker says "60 years in sports" and looks like a commeretive type decal, so it is at least 1989.

Columbus dropouts

BB stamped SL2 **** 58 (**** is serial) so the factory callout is 58 CM.

I Believe those are the Croce d'Aune version of the delta brakes.
they look a bit different, especially the back of the brake, than the Record Deltas.
I have a pair and they work well, are a bit fiddly to set up but once you get it right
the do stop well.

You're right! They are Croce d'Aune calipers ( not up to speed on Deltas). What about the rest of the components? I just assumed it was C-Record, but the springs on the outside of the caliper bodies was dead giveaway after you pointed it out. Gotta start getting back up to speed on the C-Record years.

As to braking, the bike stops on a dime.

Framest condition-

I plan on unloading the frameset (totally stripped), and have some PM's but nothing solid. In case it doesn't work out............

Forks- Straight with no crash scuns. Light surface rust, with the most being on top of the fork crown. Wheel nice and centered.

Frame- 58 CM with paint flaking in areas. Fully chromed, with underlying chrome on the frame being actually very good with no surface rust. Light surface rust on chainstay. All decals "readable" (for resto purposes). No ripples or tube damage evident. Will know more after I strip all compoments. Appears to have no rust inside the frame (seat tube inspection).

I would say that it would be a good candidate for someones next "money pit" and could use a pro resto paint job ($400.00+). Nice bike, but not my size. I ride 55.5 or 56cm frames. If it had a 56cm frame, I would resto it myself.

The ride is super nice.

PM if interested.

All Croce d'Aune group

The cranks and rear derailleur are uniquely Croce d'Aune parts. C Record cranks has a hiden spider arm and Croce d'Aune rear derailleur has a unique push rod design. The front hub is also Croce d'Aune, it shares the same design as Chorus lacking the metal dome dust cabs on either side. It looks like a full Croce d'Aune groupo bike. Even with it's condition it's a fantastic buy!
