Wax Spray Painted Finish?
 

I recently spray painted my top tube with Krylon paint. Can I wax it, or will that cause problems?

You could even wait 6 months. Don't bother till springtime.

I concur, 6 months. Most paints will still be soft at a week.

P.S.: Best way to paint something that will hold up: Proper auto paint mixed with catalyst, shoved into what will become a one-time-use Preval sprayer. Make SURE to wear one hell of a respirator.

It reads like you are saying that a Preval sprayer is the best equipment you can use to spray paint. I'm sure you don't mean that.

Absolutely not, but it is the best $10 disposable spraying solution if you're looking to spray a cheap, durable coat of paint on a crappy bike.

Wait a week to 10 days.
I'd recommend a clear over that, wait another week.
Then, a cheap car paste wax, like Kit, with the soft applicator.

Nothing abrasive, and you'll gain some longevity to the paint. Not much.

Automotive paints, simply go to your local body shop and ask.

I've found that Dupli-Color makes a spray paint that comes in MANY colors (they try to match cars) and behaves like old laquers.... They dry very quickly and have a good gloss to them. I just did my fixie and was able to polish it with some Meguiers light rubbing compound followed by some regular car wax the next day. You can't tell it isn't a factory finish. Best spray can finish I've ever found. Found it at my local auto parts store.

The Dupli-Color paints (which are lacquers) do dry quickly, and have a decent gloss, but they'll tear the moment they contact just about anything.

For trimming lugs, I just found paint pencils in 2mm at fastenal.

use krylon that you can get at home depot, it's cheaper
then use the dupli-color/motomaster for clear coat and specific colors you want since home depot never seems to carry the clear coat.
