Just picked up a Raleigh 'Super Grand Prix'

I've had a grand prix before, but this one is a super grand prix.

I don't know much about the bike, picked it up for $70 off craigslist today. For some reason the bikes weird tubes made me want it. Can anyone explain the weird tubes on this thing?

Made in canada with mostly Shimano Exage.

Thinking about sandblasting and painting it candy red, just want to make sure I don't have a diamond on my hands before I start to deface it!

That's got to be late 80's. Are all the tubes steel? (magnet test)

I think those weird tubes are the suspension on a Brooks Flyer.

Thats....something that never made it to the American market, as far as I know.

That geometry looks pretty "racey" from the photo. The front wheel looks like a toe toucher. That rear wishbone is pretty sweet looking too, tight clearance between the rear tire and seat tube.

Yeah, the clearance is nothing! I'm really leaning towards powder coating it red...
