Guys, did I do OK this weekend -- Tommaso & Pinarello
This weekend, I went to look at a Tommaso and walked away with the Tommaso and a Pinarello Treviso, both for a total of $650. Both bikes are in great shape and ready to ride.
The Tommaso is a beautiful bike. All Shimano 600 8-speed. The components and paint is beautiful. The bike is my large size, 57cm. I originally thought the bike might be mid 90's because of the components. However, it has long horizonatal dropouts, more similar to an 80's bike. There is no stamped serial number, however, the Ten Speed Imports sticker bears the number 00891.
BTW, the funky Campy seat post seems to require me to insert a wrench to connect with the bolts on the top of the post mechanism and under the shell.
Despite the peeling decals, the Pinarello Treviso is also in great shape. I doubt that I'll even do any touchup. The bike is my small, quick bike size, 54cm. The decals seem to indicate that it's a 1984 model. Campy brakes, levers, crank, shifters, and FD. Suntour RD and freewheel.
What do you suggest I do about the decals? They need to be removed. Any thoughts about how to do this? And, where can I get new decals?
Also, I want to get some steel toeclips for the Pinarello. What do you suggest? They don't need to be vintage or time correct, just need to look good. Suggestions?
Your thoughts are appreciated.

Nice bikes. I own both a Tommaso and a Pinarello. The Tomasso (a big bike 62cm) is awesome but my Pinarello is my pride and joy. One question, though, many people seem to automatically assume a Pinarello is a 'Treviso' model because it says it near the name Pinarello but this is just the name of the town the factory and store are located. Does yours actually say that on the frame? Does the frame have a bridge on the bottom bracket? I don't think the Treviso model has any chrome but I would have to look at the cataloges when I get home.
Nice snags!

If you find something in a 1984 catalogue, I'd certainly appreciate a PDF.
BTW, is there a geometry chart available for this bike?
Thanks

It would seem that way but my Montello 85 has the same thing. Treviso is just the name of the city. The Catalog I have shows the Treviso model withthe top tube showing "Mod Treviso". The thing that does make it look like a Treviso model is the fact that it has a metal headbadge. Did you look at the bottom bracket? Does it have a bridge? The BB shell should also have a number on it. Maybe that gives some detail?

My '89 Pinarello is a Treviso, I believe, because there is a decal, all but gone, down the seat tube, between the "PINARELLO" decals, that spells "TREVISO" in smaller letters; and there is a matching photo in the catalogs online at https://bulgier.net/pics/bike/Catalogs/pinarello89/5.jpg.

Two very nice bicycles, at a great price. Not too sure about the Tommaso handlebars, though... shallower ones would look better, IMHO.

P.S. Yes, you did great. I don't know how common these bikes are in your area, but I was told by the owner of the local high-end LBS that mine was one of just half a dozen Pinarellos to come here at that time.

I think "Treviso" on the seat tube, on the headbadge or under the BB refers to the city - common to many Pinarellos. A Treviso model would have it in small lettering on the sides of the top tube near the head tube.

Man you done great.
Believe your bike to be early 90's. Shimano 600 dual-pivot brakes arrived in '91, with Dura-Ace getting them in '90 I believe. Also the horizontal dropouts on your bike are not necessarily indicative of an 80's Columbus frame though, as I have a '91 Tommasini Columbus SL with horizontal dropouts. Still, you done fantastic on that deal. The Tommaso is gorgeous.
please dont turn them into a fixie.

Your pinarello is a rare bird, indeed. This bike is a cyclocross bike. where they made maybe thousands of road bikes, they perhaps made a hundred cyclocross bikes a year. Score majeur!

Oops. Looking up I see my mistake. Now looking at the right bike, it is most likely a Record. It best matches the '85 catalog, based on fork crown and the fact that both chainstays are chromed. It was full SL, very nearly the same as the Treviso, except sold as a frameset.

Pity it wasn't a cyclocross bike, that would have been the deal of the year...

Now, how do I get rid of the remainder of the old Pinarello decals -- they don't seem to be heat sensitive -- and where do I get new decals?
Thanks
