It's a really pretty color, and looks great. It's a lower/mid range model. Chrome Moly is a pretty good frame material, but it isn't butted, or else it would be a bit lighter. All things considered, I think a nice Shimano or Sun Tour gruppo would be more appropriate, but your bike would do justice to the Campagnolo parts.

I'm pretty sure the frame is made of Chrome Molybdenum

Olympic typically is somewhere in the middle of the Nishiki lineup, certainly a good model. The 12 speed, (if those are original brake levers), are aero, with a headbadge, not a decal, I'd say its about a 1984 plus or minus a year. I'm sure T-Mar will be along soon to nail it down. I think you will thoroughly enjoy that bike. I always liked that metallic burgundy that Nishiki had back then.

Wait, what's the frame made of again?
I sold a '79 or '80 Olympic 12 that was almost identical with the exception of the headbadge, and mine had vertical drop-outs. It was a nice little sport tourer and if it wasn't too small for me I might have kept it.

Nope, I have a 1983 build (bought new in '84 or '85, I forget exactly) that had a decal and no headbadge. You should be able to nail it down exactly by going to the Nishiki Serial Number thread and looking up KJ. KC, what I have, is 1983. I think yours is older than mine, so I would say the KJ means 1980.
The only way that bike could be an earlier than 83 model with aero levers is if the levers were an upgrade.

I had the same one pass through my hands, although it was in pretty rough condition. Mine was a few years older, 10speed and different lugs.

God bless East Hill.
She just gave my wife this little '79 Nishiki O.N.P. as well (sans wheels and saddle):
I'll toss some wheels and a saddle on it to get it going, but would eventually like to repaint it and build it up with SunTour Superbe or an appropriate group.
This extreme generosity from East Hill will surely come back to her in the form of some newly discovered, exotic, tiny bike soon ...
Thanks!
Bob

Celeste is getting all her parts taken off at the moment.... but Robbie... there is someone local who wants to buy her....
Ok so the project has begun most of the parts are off the bianchi and all but one are off the nishiki... the bikes are both at the LBS getting the remainder of their parts removed then the we just need to put the parts on the nishiki... I am going to need some long reach brakes a front derailler that will work with my shifters.
Also does anyone know if it would be OK to drill a hole in the BB to attach the plastic wire guide?
So that is the progress report for October 22, 2008

Whew! That Celeste is a gorgeous babe! Great body and no skin flaws... I enjoyed having my hands all over her today
The Nishiki was easy to strip, but I don't have any campy tools so the LBS is removing the cranks, bb and also the headset from the Bianchi. Long reach brakes and a clamp on FD and she'll be back on the road.

Yeah, that's what was there before. I guess I'll start cleaning up the one in my parts bin. Makes sense about the rear chainstay cable stop being on top of the chainstay.
