Was there ever a 16 hole C&V rim?
Was there ever a 16 hole C&V rim (preferably tubular)?
Reason I ask is....I bought a set of Hi-E hubs that are 24 hole rear and 16 front. The rear is spaced for 126 and uses a freewheel. That pretty much makes it C&V stuff right? It's prior to cassette hubs. I read he actually made his own rims. Did anyone else? I'm having a heckuva time trying to find rims for these things and I soooooo want to use them on my "weight weenie" build. I also have a set of 24x24 hole hubs so all hope is not lost but even those 24 hole tubulars are crazy hard to find!
I've got a wheel building question too. I've contacted a wheel builder and they refuse to use alloy nipples in the rear.....What's the deal with that? I assume they are worried about them stripping out under the extra stress a rear wheel is subjected too? Does anyone know if I can lace the front hub radially safely? I know some hubs it's a big no-no on....
Thanks,
Kelly D

You could always use a 32h rim. Fill in the unused holes with some epoxy cement or JB Weld. Shouldn't be a noticeable weight increase. Just give the rim a thin paint job and you should be set.
For your second question, I don't think 16 spokes can be laced non-radially and be practically ridden. If you really feel that you need 16 spokes, you may want to go with a slightly thicker gauge.
Good luck with the build!

Thanks......I have read about people using bearings as a fill for spoke holes. I dunno...I'll keep digging or just go with the 24's even though I'd REALLY like the 16's even though it sounds scary and flimsy!
