I can't find this bike anywhere. Part of my problem is that I can't find any catalogues from 1979-1984. The owner bought the bike in 1984.
I’ve very curious about this bike. Anything you could tell me would be great.

The owner says he bought the bike new in 1984. the Frame Tange 2001 Mangaloy tubing.
In 1987 new rims were installed with campy hubs. The rear derailleur, freewheel, bars, stem have all been upgraded.

So this bike is no longer original except for the frame and perhaps the paint. The owner wants $275 Canadian for it. I think that is way to high but I could be wrong. It’s been for sale for a while.

There Impressive list of upgrades including Shimano 600SIS rear derailer. The rims are still 27”.
23" Mangaloy Double Butted Tange 2001 Raleigh Condor Frame.
SR Laprade Seat Post.
Specialized handlebar stem and bars.
Levin CD Tange Headset.
Shimano SIS 6 speed freewheel, rear derailer and shift levers (positve shift).
Wheels laced 4 cross on 27 x 1 Anodized Mavic G40 Rims with Campagnolo high flange hubs.
Avocet R20 Gelflex saddle.
Tire sock included with spare foldable tire and tube.
Zefal hp x4 frame fit pump.
Lake shoes size 45.

Any thoughts?

I think that is one of the UK-specific models, IIRC. Have to check the catalogs.

If the seat post is original, you should be able to find a date code on it. Go to the vintage trek site, they have date code info on SR seat posts. The cranks will also have a date code, and the bottom bracket spindle may have a code as well.

All pricing is local, around here, you could find a similar bike for about $150. But your market may support the higher price.

Hi Kurt,

Thanks in advance for your help.

You have catalogues? Are they your stash or are they something I can access?

paulzinho 11-13-08 09:19 AM

@wrk101.

The seat post seems to have been upgraded.
I'll ask if the cranks are original.
Thanks.

Hi, I've seen the ad also. My buddy gave me his raleigh condor, all original except for the fork. It originally came with the shimano golden arrow component group, ( both derailleurs, shifters, brakes, brake levers, cranks. The bike also came with sakae seatpost, handlebar, stem?. The original rims were araya.
I've nailled down my bike to 1983 components, making it a 83 or 84.

Although I don't know anything about it, the shimano golden arrow component group sounds impressive. Is your bike the same colour too? The frame is Mangaloy Double Butted Tange 2001 so does that makes it sort of in the middle as far as the Raleigh lineup? Since you are in the same region, do you think the seller is asking for too much?

Hello, the golden arrow group was the first Shimano 105 group made from 83 to 85. Yes, the colour is the same, but on my bike, the " condor " label on the top tube wore completely off. From what I gathered off the web, the tange tubes are near the bottom of the GOOD steel tubes, Meaning they are a little heavier than say columbus tubing, or cro-moly.
My bike was rusted pretty good, especially the seat cluster. Also, since my freind told me he replaced the forks, I noticed a very slight bend where the top tube meets the top head lug.
As for the price, It does sound like $275 is a lot. I would google some of the parts to see what they are worth. If you do go and see the bike, keep in mind it's been for sale since at least oct 22.

Look at Raleigh84. Unfortunately, I don't see a "Condor" model for '82, '83, or '84.

Thanks Kurt,
Looks like this model is some sort of regional variation.
Thanks for the awsome link to the catalogues too.

Raleigh Condor

Just came across your post. I have a Raleigh Condor, all original and in good condition. Bought it in Waterloo, Ontario around 1984. Listed at $800 but paid only 50% during clearance at end of year because the store sold both bikes and skis and turned over the inventory when the season ended. Mine is greenish gold in colour. I am quite impressed that only the tires and maybe one rim has been replaced.
